... "Tsalapitsa rice fields’ is a complex of water areas used for rice production, surrounded by low dikes and channels, and moist meadows located right next to them. The intensification of rice production is associated with significant use of pesticides, fertilizers and other chemicals, which causes a change in water quality. The waters used to grow rice in this area come from the Topolnitsa Dam and are often contaminated with heavy metals (Angelova, 2008; Ivanova et al., 2003; 2005; 2008). Despite this status, a strong anthropogenic influence is observed there due to the inexpedient use of agrochemicals (Zhelev et al., 2017). ..."
