next day (28.07)

July 28
Hello everyone :-)

CHICKS 🐥
- 1st chick: 44 days old (hatched on 14.06)

EGGS
🥚🥚unhatched (laid on 13.05 at 22:22 and 16.05 at 02:05)

Stork chicks grow exponentially. 90 days in the nest is like 18-21 years for humans. This means that 1 day in the nest is like almost 3 months for a human child. That is why their transformation is so amazing and fast.

Info on the late nesting:

youtube chat info - thx to everyone
YouTube comments do not reflect all nest events throughout the day, including chick feedings; therefore, the log is unfortunately incomplete.

Nest Activity Log 28/07/2026 (in the evening - whole day)
Log compiled from chat observations and structured with the assistance of Gemini AI.

📊 Events Timeline

Morning
  • 05:56 – Sunrise over the nest; weather begins to clear following a rainy night.
  • 08:07 – Chick is active and walking around the nest bowl in anticipation of food.
  • 11:01 – Chick produces chirping vocalisations in the nest.
Afternoon
  • 14:261st Feeding: Adult male Kergu arrives at the nest and delivers portion of small fish after a 24-hour interval without food.
  • 15:32 – 15:36 – Thunderstorm and heavy rain hit the nest area; the chick endures the weather standing upright before sitting down to face the heavy rain.
  • 16:16 – Rain stops and the sun emerges over the nest.
  • 17:21 – Chick practises wing exercises on the nest.
Evening
  • 21:392nd Feeding: Female Kerli arrives at the nest late in the evening and delivers food (observers noted items resembling frogs/pre-digested food); she then moves to her perching branch above the nest to stay overnight.
  • 21:46 – Chick chirps while communicating with female Kerli resting nearby on the branch.
  • 21:55 – Chick pooped inside the nest.

Summary Highlights
  • Feeding Provision:
A total of 2 confirmed feedings recorded during the day (Kergu at 14:26; Kerli at 21:39). Kergu's arrival ended a 24-hour food gap for the single 44-day-old chick.
  • Parental Presence:
Female Kerli returned late in the evening (21:39) after being absent for over a day, delivering a late food and remaining on her usual perching branch above the nest to spend the night. (On July 13th there was a late food delivery at 20:38.)
  • Developmental Status:
Despite extended intervals between feedings, the 44-day-old chick demonstrated good physical activity, engaging in wing exercises and standing firm through afternoon rain and thunderstorms.
