KRUM (2023) - wintering - subadult male from Makov Rescue Station

This morning, the GPS recorded a location every 10 minutes until 07:20:08. Then, the tag switched to recording every 1 second (until 07:20:41). During this time, Krum was flying fast, at a speed over 50 km/h. After 07:20:41, the tracking returned to the normal 10-minute intervals.
Why did the data change? The GPS tag is smart. It stays in "sleep mode" to save battery when the bird is resting. However, when it detects fast movement or high speed, it automatically starts recording more often. This allows us to see exactly how Krum flies during his day!

Dnes ráno GPS zaznamenával polohu každých 10 minút až do 07:20:08. Potom sa zariadenie prepnulo na zaznamenávanie každú sekundu (až do 07:20:41). Počas tejto doby Krum letel rýchlo, rýchlosťou nad 50 km/h. Po 07:20:41 sa sledovanie vrátilo k normálnym 10-minútovým intervalom.
Prečo sa údaje zmenili? GPS zariadenie je inteligentné. Keď vták odpočíva, zostáva v „spánkovom režime“, aby šetrilo batériu. Keď však zaznamená rýchly pohyb alebo vysokú rýchlosť, automaticky začne zaznamenávať údaje častejšie. Vďaka tomu môžeme presne vidieť, ako Krum lieta počas dňa!

Krum sa presunul o kúsok ďalej na sever, aby tam nocoval. Toto miesto už raz navštívil, ale vtedy pokračoval ešte o niečo ďalej.

During the day, Krum was active in the fields west of the reservoir, where he searched for food and rested. In the evening, he moved a short distance north to roost for the night (800 m). He had visited this spot once before, but back then, he had continued a little further to rest.

Počas dňa bol Krum aktívny na poliach západne od vodnej nádrže, kde hľadal potravu a oddychoval. Večer sa presunul neďaleko (800 m) na sever, aby tam prenocoval. Toto miesto už raz navštívil, ale vtedy pokračoval ešte kúsok ďalej prenocovať.

Krum spent the day foraging and resting mostly in the fields west of the Chirpan Reservoir. For his nightly roost, he moved to his favourite spot on the northern edge of the reservoir, where the Tekirska River creates shallow, marshy terrain.

Krum strávil deň poväčšinou na poliach na západ od rezervoáru a na jeho brehoch, loviac potravu a oddychom. Nocovať sa presunul na obvyklé obľúbené miesto - na severný koniec nádrže, kde rieka Tekirska vytvára plytký močaristý terén.
