Krum surprised me again. On October 13th, after returning from the field, he circled over M(a)rtvitsata (his speed was decreasing), and I assumed he would land there and spend the night. However, the next data came from his usual roosting spot on the bank of the Maritsa River. Then yesterday, on October 14th, it was exactly the opposite — he initially flew to his usual roosting area but later moved to nearby M(a)rtvitsata, where he spent the night.

Krum ma zase raz prekvapil. Keď 13.10 po návrate z poľa krúžil nad M(a)rtvitsatou (rýchlosť klesala), tak som predokladala, že tam pristane - bude tam nocovať. Ale ďalší údaj prišiel z miesta jeho obvyklého nocovania na brehu rieky Marista. A včera 14.10 to bolo presne naopak. Priletel na obvyklé nocovisko, ale neskôr sa presunul do blízkej M(a)rtvitsaty, kde strávil noc.

During the earthquake on April 18, 1928, the ground cracked open, and at the site of a small stream near the village of Popovitsa, a lake appeared. It is called Mrtvitsata, and is also popularly known as "the Dead Lake" because it is believed to have formed as a result of the earth folding, and the water in it is considered "dead." In 1978, it was declared a protected area (reserve). There, you can see white water lilies and white poplars.
In the period 1996–1997, the project "Conservation and Educational Activities in the Protected Area 'Mrtvitsata'" was carried out, funded by the Regional Environmental Center. The goal of this project was the protection, propagation, and reintroduction of rare and endangered wetland plant species.

Počas zemetrasenia 18. apríla 1928 sa zem prepadla a na mieste potôčika pri obci Popovica sa objavilo jazero. Nazýva sa Mrtvica a medzi ľuďmi je známe aj ako „Mŕtve jazero“, pretože sa predpokladá, že vzniklo v dôsledku zvrásnenia zeme a voda v ňom je „mŕtva“. V roku 1978 bolo vyhlásené za chránenú oblasť (rezerváciu). Môžete tam vidieť biele lekná a biele topole.
V období rokov 1996 – 1997 bol realizovaný projekt „Ochranné a vzdelávacie aktivity v chránenej oblasti Mrtvica“, financovaný Regionálnym ekologickým centrom. Cieľom tohto projektu bola ochrana, rozmnožovanie a opätovné vysádzanie vzácnych a ohrozených mokraďových rastlín.
