Karula National Park (Karl II and Kaia)

The chicks spent the night alone again, but this time it went more smoothly than yesterday. The chicks slept more and werten't so alert.

02.01 Sleeping calmly


09.23 Kaia is home!
Chicks were alone for 11 h 22 min.


09.24 Feeding (1) Not much from Kaia.

Kaia goes to stand on the curved branch for a while. The chicks keep twittering.


09.37 Kaia jumps on the lower branch. Now the chicks go silent.


09.42 Kaia is preening herself on the lower branch. The chicks see her and keep twittering again.

09.51 Kaia jumps back into the nest. She goes back to the curved branch.




09.53 Kaia leaves.

11.09 A shadow moved across the forest. The chicks are watching the movement.


11.09 It's Karl!


11.09 Feeding (2) A good amount of fish from Karl. #3 has a tug-of-war with the older sibling over a big fish. #3 wins and eats it.






Karl leaves immediately after the feeding.

The chicks are observing the surrounding nature, a woodpecker just made some noises.


They are hot today.


I can hear the chick banting. But he is very cute

13.42 Karl arrives, feeds the chicks (3) and leaves immediately. All takes place in less than a minute

14.30 Kaia arrives, feeding the chicks. (4). After Kaia regurgitates one pile, she makes a small PS and goes to regurgitate a second pile. After feeding she stands on the curved branch for several minutes.




14.39 Kaia leaves

15.16 The chicks hear something new- raven ( or two..)! They see it flying over the nest as the shadow moves across the trees.

17.31 Karl arrives. He's trying to regurgitatem but the chicks are crazy! As soon as Karl opens his mouth, some little bill is already poking in his throat. That must be uncomfortable for Karl...he is trying to get away from the chicks and find a more peaceful spot, but these little rascals are quick to follow that red bill Poor Karl..

17. 36 Karl finally manages to regurgitate some good. That's feeding no (5).


After feeding, Karl arranges a twig in the nest rim, stands for a few moments, then leaves.
