17.57 KARL arrives with muddy feet and a dirty ring.
Chicks were alone for 4 h 9 min.


17.57 FEEDING ( 5) Not much to see... but there's fish.




Karl arranges a loose twig on the nest rim.
18.00 Karl flies out. He was in the nest for 3 minutes.

18.18 KAIA arrives.

18.28 Kaia flies away. She looks around before departure. Hopefully nothing scared her..
Kaia was in the nest for 10 minutes.

Karl and Kaia have established an interesting pattern. Chicks are alone for over 4 hours, then both parents come approximately at the same time, about 18 minutes apart. Then another long break.

But now the chicks got supper at 18 h ...will there be another feeding before dark, or the chicks have to wait until morning..
And more importantly- will they spend the night alone again?

Interesting to see how the parents play out this situation. If they continue the same pattern, they should both come around at 22 h to feed the kids..hopefully earlier

Karl stays in the nest, preening himself.
The chicks are harassing him with twittering and feather pulling

The young have had a busy night when they were first alone, as well as being intimidated by cuckoos. But they defended bravely. They are little warriors. From an early age, they have been preparing for the difficult life that awaits them. I keep my fingers crossed for them.

The chicks will be spending the night alone.
