Farafra is an oasis, or rather a small town, where a mere 7,000 people live. Now, Farafra is more of a town than an isolated community where you can find people from various backgrounds from around Egypt, buildings up to three floors high and paved streets. Most of Farafras income is based on farming, herding and some on tourism. http://www.touregypt.net/featurestories ... oasis.htm

Thankfully Udu found the Farafra Oasis in the middle of the desert.


There are irrigated fields where Udu can hopefully forage for some food. Irrigated fields around Farafra are mostly used for potato and cereal farming. Planting season should be in late September- early October, so I'm wondering how much food can Udu find in these fields?

we are again without new data

KARL II
- I am not worried yet, Karl most probably continued on his way to his wintering area and maybe we won't get any data from him until next spring

situation in his first migration with transmitter in 2020 on the pics

last data - autumn 2020
- Distance 7111, Last: 23.10 .2020, Sudan, North Kordofan State



new data - spring 2021
- Distance: 1760 km, Last data: 08.03.2021, Sudan, White Nile state, Ad Douiem district (the newest localisation is not far from Wad Nimr on the west bank of the White Nile)



- data transmission has resumed in spring (08.03.2021) in almost the same area as the last data in the autumn (23.10.2020)

I am not worried eiter about Karl II. If we don't get anymore data from him then I also think/hope that he is safetly in his wintering place.

But Pikne, Udu, Nurme? What is happening in Egypt

I'm thinking that they simply flew to an area with no reception and so we don't have data available..

NURME: I am worried, in that area disapperaed more BS (and WS) with transmitter - we will see in the spring
PIKNE: maybe Pikne is already in Ethiopia and there are big areas without GSM coverage
UDU: I hadn't idea which way is continuing this special stork

Yes, If we look at my Migration maps overview (google maps) then we see that last data from Polish stork Florek was sent on 3.10 roughly in the same area as Nurme on 6.10. But as prof. Zielinski stated, that he probably flew through the Sahara already to the areas with no GSM coverage...
Same could be with Nurme, Pikne and Udu.
I hope to get at least some new info soon, until then, fingers crossed for all our brave storks!
