10.05 FEEDING (4) Karl serves two big fish..then another pile with lots of fish! They are not soft enough for the chicks to get pieces from..


Eventually one of the chicks finds a smaller fish and swallows it! It almost doesn't fit! Actually the chick really struggles with it..and Karl covers the chicks while the fish is still out of its mouth.


What kind of fish is it? It has an eel-like body...a Burbot?


Karl eats back a total of 7 big fish!

11.35 FEEDING (5) Karl regurgitates the pile of fish- it's still not digersted enough to become soft. The chicks try to get a bite for 2 minutes..nothing. Then one chick decides to swallow one long fish whole The other one won't attempt this..

The chick who swallows the whole long fish It's a lot of work and needs several resting breaks.






At the end of the feeding, I think that the second chick didn't get anything.

12.23 FEEDING (6) Karl offers food to the chick who stayed hungry since the last feeding. The first chick still has the fish tail sticking out from its mouth! It is not interested in food. ( and is incapable of eating) The fish is now soft and the second chick gets a good feeding!

14.07 FEEDING (7) Privately for the second chick. Karl serves a small pile of fish. The chick finds a smaller piece and eats it. Later it finds a bigger fish and manages to swallow it whole! Great feeding!
The first chick isn't hungry or begging- it is still full from the big fish it swallowed. At least it's not out from its mouth anymore.

During the last feeding, the egg is talking loudly. At the end of the feeding, we see the egg with the hole- it lookes bigger now with a crack on the edge..the 3rd chick is making progress, but it will be already tiny compared to the older siblings.


14.22 Karl stands for a moment to change his position. Now the moss blocks even more view because meanwhile Karl pulled some materials closer.

14.51 One storklet makes a PS out from the nest bowl!


14.57 Kaia arrives! Short greeting with Karl. Karl leaves immediately. Kaia looks at the chicks and covers them.
Karl's nest duty was 4 h 54 min.


15.00 There are all kinds of chirps and beeps coming from under Kaia's belly- she can't relax and has to check the nest. Occasionally she twitches with the sounds....

15.22 Kaia has her bill hidden in her feathers- I'm not surprised. It's only 12 degrees.
And it promises more rain showers abd even thunder soon...


15.29 Good view on the egg hole.


15.30 Chicks start begging. Kaia tries to regurgitate...maybe a tiny tiny piece of something comes out, the chicks can't find anything edible. Kaia covers them.
