14.31 Kaia arrives! Nice greeting from both storks. Karl leaves instantly. The change takes about 14 seconds
Karl's incubation shift was 20 h 43 min.


Kaia carefully arranges some nest material. She has a small twig that she can't decide where to put
She also rolls the eggs.


14.32 Kaia continues incubation.

Karl doesn't go straight to feeding!
Instead he starts to bring fresh material to the nest. What a good stork!

15.19 Our majestic, beautiful Kaia

15.42 Kaia is observing dome birds who are flying nearby.
Also some very interesting sounds begin. Totally strange to me..

15.44 This strange sound is very clearly heard. Kaia listenes too.


This sound belongs to an Eurasian Jay ( garrulus glandarius). They are actually very good at mimicing different birds and making a big variety of sounds.

17.45 Kaia carefully rolls the eggs and spreads the dry grass around the nest bowl.

Suddenly it got very dark and started raining quite heavily.

19.28 It's pouring!


20.10 The rain is calmer, but Kaia, and everything else around her is soaking!


And due to the heavy rain, Kaia hasn't moved herself or rolled the eggs for over two hours.

Looks like Kaia will be spending the night in the nest today.

It has been lightly raining all night and morning. The rain will probably continue until afternoon.

03.33 Kaia is taking care of the eggs..I think I hear egg talk ?! very silent.


04.29 Kaia seems to be twitching a little...I think she hears the chick! Next minute she stands up and starts to aerate.
