On August 17th we took in a very weak young black stork. He had a bone injury and his feathers were full of parasites. On August 20th We handed the bird over to the Rafael veterinary practice, where it was cared for by Ms. Grasnick. On September 23rd he could be taken back into our care. The injuries to the stand have healed well. He will have to spend the winter with us until he can probably be released into the wild in the spring.

Seit 17.

"The exclusive one-room nest on the roof of the Skrunda House of Culture has been coveted by a black stork. The local storks are not going to give up so easily and give this joy to the black beauty," reports Skrunda's cultural work organizer Aivita Staneviča to the "tv3.lv" portal.

The fight for the nest in the city center has been going on for several days. "How this story will end is unknown. We will follow," reports Staneviča.

VIDEO shared and translated (what Dr.M.S. says) translated at my request by Guna Eglāja - big thank to you! :D

Although the white and black storks are from the same family, it can be figuratively said that they speak different languages and do not understand each other. The result of such communication can be seen in Skrunda. The employees of the Skrunda Culture House were very surprised when they saw the black one in the white stork's nest. The whites have not been at peace with it. Who will really be the master of the nest?

Hello, here will be what Māris Strazds said:
Most likely, he is the only one not only in all of Latvia, but maybe also among the black storks that are alive at the moment. Perhaps that bird has grown up in a white stork's nest and identifies itself with a white stork, but biologically of course it is not. He has innate behavioural frames. Those white storks, whom he would like to cling to and maybe find a partner for himself, do not understand him. What black storks are roosting flight, the white one may perceive it as an attack and does not understand why the "black fool" is flying after him.

Marika:
such cases are increasing, albeit rarely, and are documented (last year there was also a joint nesting of a female black stork and a white male - 2 chicks successfully fledged https://www.ciconianigra.sk/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=128)
