- on 18.07, all 4 storks flew away in alarm (young people were under the nest)
- Jola and Grzgeroz returned to the nest the same day
- Stefan and Darek never came back to the nest (only about 72 days old)

GRZEGORZ (16L8 - VS1804): migration started on 29.07

STEFAN (17L8 - VS1805): migration started on 21.07

JOLA (18L8 - VS1806): did not migrate (on July 27, she flew 3.5 km but returned)
- PERISHED on 29.07/most probably starved

DAREK (19L8 - VS1807): migration started on 21.07
- PERISHED maybe on 23.07/most probably electrocuted

Młode otrzymały bardzo lekkie (do 35g) loggery plecakowe dwóch różnych polskich producentów. Urządzenia są zaprojektowane specjalnie dla tego gatunku, są odpowiednio wysokie, żeby pióra nie zasłaniały paneli solarnych (fot. D. Anderwald)
The young ones received very light (up to 35g) backpack loggers from two different Polish producers. The devices are designed specifically for this species, they are tall enough so that the feathers do not cover the solar panels

Hmmm, czyżby STEFAN jako pierwszy bocian czarny z Polski już 21 LIPCA rozpoczął migrację? Wszystko na to wskazuje. Jest właśnie 35 km na W od gniazda, z którego został spłoszony trzy dni temu: https://youtu.be/Ut7JhsQwUwc Ciężka to próba, bo bocian Stefan ma dopiero około 72 dni, ale trzymamy kciuki za nowe samodzielne i szczęśliwe życie!

Hmmm, did STEFAN as the first black stork from Poland start migration on JULY 21? Everything points to this point. Stork is exactly 35 km on the W from the nest, from which it was flattened three days ago: https://youtu.be/Ut7JhsQwUwc. It's a difficult trial because Stefan is only about 72 days old, but we keep our fingers crossed for a new independent and happy life!

Dobry wieczór, DAREK wyruszył dziś o 8:00 i do 16:00 zrobił wycieczkę w kierunku NE nad Wartę i potem zawrócił w kierunku SW i wylądował nad jakimiś małymi stawami koło miejscowości Bledzew.
STEFAN co najmniej do 10ej był z Darkiem, ale nie połączył się i więcej wiec dalej nie wiadomo. Wygląda jednak ze wszystko OK.

Good evening, Darek set off today at 8:00 and by 16:00 he made a trip towards the NE to the Warta River and then turned back towards the SW and landed at some small ponds near the village of Bledzew.
Stefan was with Darek at least until 10 o'clock, but he did not connect and more is still unknown. Everything seems fine though.

Wspólna wędrówka bocianów Darka i Stefana na zachód

Okazuje się, że aż dwa bardzo młode (ca 73-74 dni) bociany czarne z Nadleśnictwa Bolewice rozpoczęły wędrówkę i przez pierwsze dwa dni trzymają się razem. Po spłoszeniu z gniazda 18.07 przez ludzi, każdy z nich poleciał gdzie indziej: Stefan 1,5km na SW, Darek aż 3,0km na SW. Raczej samotnie błądziły po okolicznych lasach i uczyły się zdobywać pokarm na zabagnieniach i licznych ciekach na Obszarze Natura2000 Jeziora Pszczewskiei Dolina Obry.
Spotkały się raczej przypadkowo dopiero po trzech dniach 21.07 nad stawami rybnymi pod Trzcielem, ponad 7 km od gniazda! Następnie zawróciły wspólnie na N i nad dużym polem dostały się o 12:00 w komin z ciepłym powietrzem, nabrały wysokości (1140 m n.p.m - h bezwzględna) i jednym długim ślizgiem poleciały 35km na zachód. Drugi dzień także spędziły razem i robiły rekonesans na N w kierunku Warty, by znów wrócić na S nad Obrę. Zapewne ich drogi niebawem się rozejdą. Na razie jednak rodzeństwo wspólnie nocowało i bez opieki rodziców zdobywa nowe doświadczenia.

Stork Darko and Stefan flew to the west together
It turns out that two very young (about 73-74 days) black storks from the Bolewice Forestry started their hike and for the first two days they are staying together. After being flown from the nest 18.07 by people, each of them flew elsewhere: Stefan 1.5km on the SW, Darek as far as 3.0km on the SW. Rather lonely they wandered around the surrounding forests and learned how to get food on the wetlands and numerous streams at Obszarze Natura2000 Jeziora Pszczewskiei Dolina Obry.
They met rather by accident only after three days 21.07 at the fishing ponds near Trzciel, over 7 km from the nest! Then they turned together on the N and at 12:00 they got into a chimney with warm air over a large field, gained heights (1140 m above sea level - irrespective of h) and flew 35 km west with one long slide. They also spent the second day together and did reconnaissance on the N towards Warta, to return again to the S by Obra. I am sure their paths will cross soon. For now, however, the siblings have spent the night together and are gaining new experiences without parental care.
