Hello everyone :-)

Birdmap update for WABA https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/EN/2022/aut ... =0&speed=1

Previous data: viewtopic.php?p=11160#p11160 and next
- 19.12.2022, Distance: 9162 km (+ 257 km in 3 days)
- SUDAN: Abu Hamad - River Nile State

NEW data:
- 20.12.2022, Distance: 9181 km (+ 19 km)
- SUDAN: Abu Hamad - River Nile State

Waba flew after night resting on irrigated field (not far from the area of the circle fields) to the south. The path-line is above the town Abu Hamad. Stork has the newest lines near the village Singerab Al Ghireib East in area of the stream and than not far to the east there. I am not sure what kind of stream it is, it seems to be not perennial (year-round).

I found the name - that stream area is Wadi Al Sheikh (btw. this name is also used in other places)

reading About Mograt Island and history (Morgat is the largest island in the Nile, belongs to the administration of the Abu Hamed Locality. The booming town of Abu Hamed is located on the northern mainland bank of the Nile) https://www.mogratarchaeology.com/en/ab ... rat-island

btw. on more photos from there (mapio.net) is the name Mathias Ritter (physical geography, author of this map above) - member of the field team 2008 and 2014

Cataracts of the Nile

As the Egyptians travelled up the Nile (south in general direction), they came upon a series of nearly impossible to traverse rapids. These rapids were called cataracts.

All of them are distributed along the so-called Great Bend, a section of the Nile where the river veers sharply off-course before turning back towards the Mediterranean. The Great Bend and the cataracts are caused by tectonic uplift, which pushes the Nile off-course along the Nubian Swell, an area of Africa that is extremely geological active.
