Hello everyone :-)

Birdmap update for WABA https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/EN/2022/aut ... =0&speed=1

Previous data: viewtopic.php?p=11135#p11135 and next
- 16.12.2022, Distance: 8905 km (+ 216 km in 3 days)
- SUDAN: Merowe - Northern State

NEW data:
- 19.12.2022, Distance: 9162 km (+ 257 km in 3 days)
- SUDAN: Abu Hamad - River Nile State

Waba continued to the north, stork followed the river Nile. Newest localisation is (in flight - mid-flight data) above the fields north from the town Abu Hamad - between DAL Abu Hamad farm (circle irrigated fields) to the east and one village named Kavtrah Oasis to the west.

Abu Hamad (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Hamad): is a town on the right bank of the Nile, north of Khartoum. It stands at the centre of the great S-shaped bend of the Nile, and from it the railway to Wadi Halfa strikes straight across the Nubian Desert, a little west of the old caravan route to Korosko.
The Battle of Abu Hamed, a part of the Anglo-Egyptian reconquest of the Sudan, took place near the town on 7 August 1897 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Abu_Hamed

Sudan wants to ‘turn the desert green’ in agricultural modernisation push

very nice view on the irrigated fields there - big PHOTO click (because copyright)

... this massive agricultural oasis lies in the Nubian Desert in northeastern Sudan on the right bank of the Nile, in circles of grassland sprayed 22 hours a day by centre pivot irrigation systems ... Step outside each grass field, and the desert stretches to Egypt.

As of 5/7/2022 - the rightmost pivots were recently installed. To the left are gold mines and villages built for those displaced by the Merowe dam. (https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/ ... 11/page-44)

I knew that Marika would find something interesting about this area 8-) .
Turning the desert into an agricultural area is quite an ambitious plan, but probably unsustainable in the long run ...

Anyway Marika, thanks for the pictures and article links. Great job Marika : :) !
