Hello, from the reading of transmitters it appears that both Bodzio and Bajka for the last 7 days
have not moved further than 500-650 m from the nest. They circle the area and sit on tall trees. There is no water, ditch, canal, etc. within a radius of 1 km, so they have to follow Bolek in the end. That's what we're counting on.

- both prof.PZ and Urmas agree that young storks do not follow their parents
1/ prof.
In any case, from our point of view, this learning foraging looks weak.
But in this species it is so and apparently such a model based on high independence of offspring after leaving, however, passes the test.
2/ Mr. Urmas Sellis:
How the juveniles learn to fish? Easy! If they do not fish, then they do not spread their genes. Only those can get chicks, who have instinct to fish in suitable places.
First fishing could happen far away form home nest, but also near the nest. More possibilities and more time to find right places and practice fishing have those who's body condition is better. Their batteries are more charged and stand for longer (before additional food). ... I think, juveniles (and other adults) look for other specimen, if see near water they pay more attention on that place and if possible, join feeding in the same water-body.
!!! better results are in surviving of the chicks which spend longer time in nest after fledging, means they return to the nest and step by step get independent, but are still getting food from parents in nest ... our data suggest that two domestic factors might have a significant impact on their migratory success - body weight and longevity of stay in nest (Dr. Māris Strazds)
