Observations & Nest Behaviour
- The Heat Challenge: The weather in Alcántara is getting very hot (it was already over 21°C in the morning). The chicks are struggling with the heat and are sticking close to the nest wall trying to find some shade/coolness.
- Chick Development: Viewers noted that the chicks became noticeably darker ("more blackish") literally overnight as their adult feathers are pushing through.
- Parental Behaver: Last night, one of the parents (male Natalio) stayed on the nest for a very long time, remaining there even after it got completely dark. Right now, the parents are switching very fast during feedings - they just drop the food and fly away immediately.
- Water Delivery Note: A viewer pointed out a worrying detail - the last time Natalio brought water for the chicks to drink/cool down was on June 1st. There was no water delivery on June 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.

by me:
Rapid breathing with an open bill (panting) is a completely normal cooling mechanism for storks.
The nest is situated right above a massive body of water (a former quarry), which helps with the microclimate.
The rock wall itself cools the nest area down (and provides shade).
Storks know exactly what to do.
