Karula National Park (Karl II and Kaia)

08.59 Karl is back with a bit of grass.


The chicks are chirping for water and fish.
Karl takes a twig from the nest rim and moves it to another place.




There's an 18 second gap.. I don't think that any feedings happened in the mean time.

09.03 Karl flies out.

[Madli]

09.06 Kaia comes. This time one chick sees her arrive and growls.
The chicks also pump their wings and grab Kaia's bill. Kaia moves to feed the kids.(2)

Just as Kaia is about to regurgitate, there's a gap in the stream. A few moments later Kaia already stands on the curved branch.




Kaia makes a PS in the nest..the chicks try to eat it

Kaia is facing the chicks now. They are nodding and twittering.


9.11 Kaia jumps on the lower branch.


09.15 Chicks start to chirp and beg for water.
Kaia listenes to the chicks and jumps to the nest. She checks them for a moment.
Kaia jumps back on the lower btanch.
09.17 Kaia leaves.

[Madli]

Patiently waiting.


09.25 Kaia brings moss and water for the chicks.


(another break in the stream)


Kaia goes on the curved branch.
09.47 Kaia goes to stand next to the chicks. They are thirsty again and begging for water.

[Madli]

Kaia stands in the nest for quite a long time. The chicks are twittering besides her.




10.01 Kaia steps to the chicks. ( the stream stutters), but there's water dripping from her bill, so I presume that she tried to give water.
10.02 Kaia tries to regurgitate more. It doesn't work this time.
10.08 Kaia leaves.

10.22 The sun is now shining directly on the nest. The chicks are hot.

[Madli]

10.52 Karl is back for the next feeding. (3)

[Madli]

12.17 The chicks are banting like little ducks.

And the back feathers are growing.

[Madli]

13.21 Karl comes for feeding (4). He leaves right after the feeding.

[Madli]

14.13 Still very hot. Probably around 30 C even in shade. The chicks could use some water
