youtube chat
thx Hellem for sharing!
At the moment there are no possibilities to go on with incubation in artificial conditions or to keep/feed such small chicks in captivity.
In specific cases, it is possible to raise BS chicks in artificial conditions and afterwards distribute them on nests of breeding BS, to get environmental imprinting in the wild. As it was with Bonus.
But there are particular components, which are not easy to achieve (including the right food and regular feedings without visible human presence; warm food, as provided by the parents; microbiome [microorganisms] obtained through food, insects in the forest and in the nest and in the feathers of adults, etc. …).
We do not know all the conditions that are necessary. Conditions for which storks have adapted by evolution.

May 11
Hello.
The camera is online and again and unfortunately, the nest looks empty!
I can see transmission from 09.44.
Actually,
09.44 I see movement in the nest bowl- there are still live chicks and no parents in sight.

Sorry I can't do screenshots now.
10.06.58 Male stork arrives and sings! Female is not nearby. This could be the strange male.
He looks at the chicks in the nest and he doesn't care for them.
10.09 Stranger takes one chick and walks to the side branch! Little one looks already dead and stiff. It was not seen what happened- did he eat the chick or threw it on the ground.

10.12 Camera zooms out a little.
10.12 Stork flies away.

10.28 Stork arrives and lands silently on the side branch. Could it be the female?
10.33 Stork flies away.

Re: ESTONIA Jõgeva County NEW NEST
youtube chat info:
- the broadcast returned at such a tragic moment (one chick moved)

Liznm - she see that in archive:
- 4 storklets Maybe even more...
- They look well-fed. She couldn't possibly have done that alone.
- They had a chance, and then this happened!
- 9:21 strange male arrived on the left branch. 3 heads are up. Female is defending
- He didn't attack. the strange male jumped from one to another branch. Parent in the nest felt attacked and starts fighting. Then both are in the nest.
- 9:43 fight in the nest... both are trampling on the little ones, then both fell out of nest on the right
- All gone in those few seconds.
- they were trampled to death, this is why fighting in the nest is avoided

Re: ESTONIA Jõgeva County NEW NEST
I won't document it (I won't even watch it on rewind)
I'm very, very sad that after all the hope it ended so badly
I think we don't need to see such moments - what can we learn from them? We have long known that defending the nest and chicks is accompanied by fighting. ... and not to see what is continuing

Re: ESTONIA Jõgeva County NEW NEST
silent arrival, wing is O.K. - our female?

Re: ESTONIA Jõgeva County NEW NEST
After the arrival at 11.14 stork arranges some twigs and repairs the nest.
11.15 Stork removes second dead chick and walks to the side branch. Throws it to the ground.

Is this the stranger stork or own parent? I can't tell the difference.
