Ülevaade Jõgevamaa must-toonekure pesaelust An overview of the life of the black stork nest in Jõgeva County

Viimaste päevade aegu võime märgata, et vanalinnud veedavad poegadega pesal aega väga pikalt ehk teisisõnu poegade toitmise vaheajad on muutunud pikkadeks.
31. mail saabus emaslind Janika pesale kolmveerand seitse ja toitis kurepoegi. Kell üheksa õhtul saabus isaslind Jaan pesale, toitis ja jäi kurepoegadega ööbima. Hommikul said kurepojad isaslinnult toiduks eelmisel päeval püütud kalad ja jäädi ootama emaslinnu pesale saabumist.
Eile 1. juunil saabus emaslind pesale alles kel pool viis õhtul ja Jan sai siirduda koheselt oma jahimaadele Saak oli suhteliselt kesine, aga pojad said üle pika aja toidetud. Emaslind jäi poegadega ööbima.
Täna st 2. juunil on endiselt poegadega pesal emaslind. Isaslindu pole me näinud juba 21 tundi…
Mis võib olla põhjuseks?
Kui Janiga on kõik korras, siis tegeleb ta toiduhankimisega. Viimaste päevade ilmad on olnud muutlikud. Hoovihma sajud on kergitanud nendes ojades vett, kus vanalinnud kalastasid ja seega võiks arvata, et tuleb otsida uusi kohti… Loodame olukorrast selgust saada ja anname teile toimunud muutustest teada.

MADLI, pls corrections if needed via PM -thx in advance - DONE, thx very much
now the translation by our Madli:

In recent days, we can see that old birds spend a very long time with their young in the nest, in other words, the feeding breaks for their young have become long.
On May 31, female Janika arrived to the nest at 6.45 and fed the storklets. At nine in the evening, the male Jan arrived, fed and stayed overnight with the stork chicks. In the morning, the storklets received the food caught the previous day from the male waited for the female to arrive at the nest.
Yesterday, on June 1, the female did not arrive at the nest until 16.30 in the evening, and Jan was able to move to his hunting grounds immediately. The female stayed overnight with the chicks.
Today, on June 2, the female is still in the nest with the chicks. We haven't seen the male for 21 hours…
What could be the reason?
If Jan is okay, he's getting food. The weather in recent days has been volatile. Rain showers have raised the water in the streams where the old birds fished, so you might think that looking for new places is needed… We hope to find out and let you know

without transmitter data, we have no idea where to look for him - their territory is very big (M can be anywhere within a radius of 10 - 20 km around the nest or more)
FRANCE:
- 55% of cases within 10 km from the nest, 89% within a distance of 20 km, and a maximum of 23 km
- during the chick feeding period, the pair forage in the area of up to 870 km2
(!), and after the chicks' departure up to 1120 km2

Info from URMAS in LK forum:

"I'm in touch with situation here, but don't know more as you.
Think in course of evolution there is no solution for disappearing of one adult. But there is working probably the instinct, that other adult will not leave easily chicks alone. Up to a point, of course. Other sides, predators are around and have to use every gift provided.
I have no good solution for case if Jan will not come at all. It is possible to make nice view here and rise up the chicks artificially, but these storks will be not really wild. We do not have experiences and technical sources to make it properly. Theoretically, it is possible to provide fish for Janika and she would feed chicks well, but problematic is how to make those fish quickly findable, discoverable for Janika? We do not know, where she forages usually as territory is huge and no any glue to install a fish-basket...
There was a fish basket for three weeks since beginning of May, in less as one km from this nest, in quite open place on stream. But no storks visited it, so removed the basket and placed in another territory."

yes, I'm afraid of what will happen to the chicks in the morning. Number 5 is very weak. :(
