Yes, Indeed I also volunteered in such activity myself at the end of November in Pärnu county.marika.solo wrote: ↑26 Jan 2022, 19:27 ESTONIA, 10.12.2018
small river treatment works take place every year in Estonia https://www.talgud.ee/en (as well in Latvia )
our Madli also took part in one such event this autumn (2021)(viewtopic.php?p=449#p449)
Although the number of black storks has always been small here, it is now quite rare. There are various reasons, but the main role is certainly played by the felling of large forest massifs and the deterioration of streams suitable for feeding. We cannot bring back the felled forests with the work, but we can facilitate the access of black storks to their feeding grounds. There are several forest streams in Estonia where this mysterious bird is looking for food. By thinning the bushes from the shores of these water bodies, we ensure better access to the black stork and the opportunity to escape quickly as the predators approach. Lack of food is one of the main reasons why black storks fail to raise their young.
The bigger was my surprise when I found out that the stream we are working on, is one of TIMMU's feeding places! This really warmed my heart. Timmu's nest is about 10 km from this stream.
We had an unexpected snowfall in the last evening/night, this made the working conditions a little more extreme, but we survived

Beavers are busy there...as we see, the water level was quite high...crossing this dam was the only way to get to the other side!

This is the side where the thick bushes have been cut off already but not yet thrown further from the bank..

And this is the finished side.

Would I do it again in the future (next autumn)? YES!
