pinki flyd wrote: ↑26 Jul 2023, 16:28 Hello to all,
as we know, things are only going so well in Karl & Kaia's nest because the young storks are sponsored by the fish baskets.
How will this continue in the future?
Of course I'm glad that the young storks are being cared for, but in the long run that can't be a solution.
The dry years will probably become more rather than less.
What do you think about it![]()
Re: Discussion to nesting
Good question, Pinki.
But I think that requires an expert answer.
Basically
- Stop digging the draining channels and ditches to let the natural brooks and rivers gain more water from the soil.
- Less fishermen who prevent fish migration from the sea to spawn in smaller rivers.
- Farmers should also use less chemicals on their fields. This drains into the soil and therefore to the water. The first ones who get affected by this are amphibians.

Re: Discussion to nesting
Hi madli,
thanks for your thoughts on this.
It is clear to me that many factors influence forest life. And in recent years, unfortunately, there has been an increase in harmful activities by humans.
Unfortunately, this will probably not change in the next few years, in addition to the climate change.
The food chain in the forests is already disturbed.
Human help is very commendable, but in the long run our black storks will not be able to survive because they will no longer be able to raise their offspring independently.
In addition, there are also the well-known nests without brood.
I'm just thinking about it a lot at the moment and wanted to know what you think about it, maybe I'm exaggerating

Re: Discussion to nesting
I'm thinking about it a lot too.
Black storks have been such an inspiration to me that now, at the age of 33 I'm going back to school to study environmental protection.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I care about our forests and nature a lot!

That's great!!
I admire your courage and dedication
I very much hope that the situation will get better next year and that the stork parents will find enough food for themselves and the chicks on their own, so that they do not become dependent on humans
