K3 - 718X: IKS (letter X pronunciation in Estonian)

FLEDGING
- Bonus fledged on 09.08 at 07.43 and returned (79 days old)
- Voog fledged on 09.08 at 08.08 and returned (73 days old)
- Waba fledged on 10.08 at 08.53 and returned (74 days old)
- Iks fledged on 11.08 at 06.31 and returned (72 days old)

We can see the nest of black storks nesting in Karula National Park for the seventh season in a row. The old natural nest with an interesting construction had collapsed in half by the spring of 2018, which is why this artificial nest was built right beside the old nest, which we now monitor with a camera.

KARULA NATIONAL PARK

The smallest (surface area: 123 km²) and hilliest national park in Estonia, Karula National Park is located in the Karula Uplands, on the borders of Valga and Võru counties. The varied terrain of Karula was placed under national protection, with the original landscape protection area being designated a national park in 1993. The park was established to preserve the natural environment found in the hilly landscapes characteristic of Southern Estonia, where forests and lakes abound, as well as species under protection and the cultural heritage of the area.

Pikne started migration on 20 August- Pikne perished on 06 June 2022 during spring migration in Turkey ( most probably collision with power lines)

Kaia was last seen in the nest on 12 August
Karl II started migration on 23 August

Happy new season!

Today, April 08, Karl II reached his nest in Karula National Park, Estonia!

A late night message from Urmas:
"In the morning we changed the camera at Karl's nest, we lost audio there. We barely finished before Karl's return. I knew that he spent the night ca 130 km south, I must check the times, but I think it was a 1-2 hour gap between us leaving and Karl's arrival. He is in the nest at the moment.
I'll try to make the cameras public now, for that I still need to look over the descriptions, links etc."
