09.21 Kaia is acting weird today..she seems very nervous. The chicks are twitteringand asking for food, #3 is just standing still, no movement.
Image

She tries to regurgitate food, nothing comes out.

The chicks keep twittering, and #3 is also acting weird. Like it is scared..
I hope that there will not be any eliminations at this point

13.04.47 The stranger is on the nest tree, right above the nest. It shakes its plumage.

13.20 The chicks are restless and twittering. Kaia is still protecting them. She is peckind nest material and whistles. The chicks think it's food time..they are following the red bill.

13.23 Kaia's body posture shows that the stranger is still in presence.

13.26 The stranger shakes its plumage.
13.27 The stranger makes a PS- you can hear it.

Looduskalender article:
11.06.2022
https://www.looduskalender.ee/n/node/6763

Vanemad kurepojad, kes koorusid 28. mail said täna kahe nädalasteks.
Ühe aasta vanuseks elab all kolmandiku tänavustest pesapoegadest.
Mida me veebikaamera kaudu ei näe?
Lisaks kõigele on Urmas Sellis umbes kümne kilomeetri kaugusele paigutanud ojasse ühe sumba eluskaladega ja rajakaamera on salvestanud seal must-toonekurgede külastused.

Older chicks who hatched on 28.May, turned two weeks old today. Third storklet is significantly smaller than the others, but it hatched three days later.
Mother Kaia and father Karl can manage feeding the chicks nicely despite the fact that the youngest one is much smaller than the others. We know, and have seen, that there is infaticide in black stork nests, where parents remove the weaker nestlings. Main reason is the lack of food because the chick who is fed strong by their parents must take the long and dangerous migration journey already in august, and all that alone. But this is the way black storks are. Less than a third of this year's chicks will live to the age of 1.
What we don't see through the camera?
In Karula National Park, where black storks nest, the Eagle Club has been organizing campaigns for years to clear the shorelines of the Koiva river basins so that birds can access them: small natural streams tend to grow in the bush, but black storks feed in such empty places. During the nesting period, old birds also feed in ditches where fish are found, but they can dry out during both the spring and summer droughts, ie endanger the success of nesting, so birds must have the opportunity to visit different feeding areas.
Old birds look for food in meadows, frogs and rarely in the form of rodents. Through the webcam we can see that fish are the main food. In addition, Urmas Sellis has placed a basket of live fish in the stream about ten kilometers away, and the track camera has recorded the visits of black storks there.
