12.15 Kaia comes back, but bshe lands on the lower branch first. Then she jumps to the nest with a piece of wet grass. Kaia gives a small shower for the nestlings.

12.20 Chicks are chirping for water. They are alone in the nest.

12.23 Kaia brings a tiny piece of moss and more water!
Kaia goes to stand on the curved branch. Looks like she is hot too- letting air under her wings.

The chicks are still chirping for more water.
12.28 Kaia leaves the nest.

12.30 Kaia flies under the nest! The chicks observe her and soon a loud cracking of the dry branches can be heard.

12.42 Kaia brings water.

12.45 Kaia tries to regurgitate food but it doesn't happen. Maybe there is no more food in her crop, but the chicks also make it very difficult by grabing the bill and poking Kaia's throat. Kaia abandons that thought and goes to the curved branch.

12.51 Kaia leaves.

Tonight at about 10.30 pm, Urmas Sellis will bring one of the three orphaned storklets to the Karula nest as a foster child. The storklet is ringed (easy to recognize in the nest) and equipped with a small radio transmitter.

The only thing that can interfere with the transplant is an evening thunderstorm in the nesting forest, but we need to keep our fingers crossed for the project to succeed.

Urmas will stay overnight in the vicinity to intervene immediately if necessary.

In the coming days, we will give a more detailed overview of the history, what happened and the transfer of the last two chicks to the nests of other black storks.
