youtube chat info:
21:21:11 Fer got up suddenly and the chick that was probably stuck a bit in the feathers went up with the body, and got thrown away

- little one is chirping within the branches
- the cold will kill it
:(

she defended the nest because one tawny owl flew nearby
btw. I saw a video with a similar event (an eagle flew out of the nest with a very small nestling)

Video of this unfortunate moment.

A purely accidental incident happened to us. But we will not intervene. Mainly because a visit to the nest at night could scare Fermina for a long time. If she would return in the morning, all the chicks would be dead from hypothermia. I believe the storklet is still alive, but it has gone numb and you know how it will end. Black storks do not have imprinted in their genetic program saving of the chick outside the nesting bole (marika: nesting bowl). The chick that is out does not belong to them. In a typical situation, this works well, and it's enough.

In birds that nest in colonies, chicks' voice is very important and is used to identify their own chicks.

Oh, what an unfortunate event! :(

Could it be that there is No 1, 3, 4 left?
