A purely accidental incident happened to us. But we will not intervene. Mainly because a visit to the nest at night could scare Fermina for a long time. If she would return in the morning, all the chicks would be dead from hypothermia. I believe the storklet is still alive, but it has gone numb and you know how it will end. ​Black storks do not have imprinted in their genetic program saving of the chick outside the nesting bole (marika: nesting bowl). The chick that is out does not belong to them. In a typical situation, this works well, and it's enough.

In birds that nest in colonies, chicks' voice is very important and is used to identify their own chicks.
