13.57 FEEDING (6) A small amount of soft mush. #1 and #3 eat a few bites, later #2 joins and eats too. Overall the chicks don't seem very interested in food.




Egg #4 is barking
Karl aerates the nest and lies down.

14.09 Karl changes position.
14.28 Karl gets up, PS-small, checks on the chicks and covers them.

14.41 Karl gets up, he looks at the chicks. Older siblings get to the table quickly, #3 is facing the opposite way- pecking at Karl's legs.


14.43 Karl manages to regurgitate 2 tiny bits of food, chicks don't see it and Karl eats it back.
He covers the chicks.

15.24 Karl gets up. He stands and waits patiently, all chicks crawl to the table.


15.27 FEEDING (7) #1 and #2 find the small piece of food that is left in Karl's crop. #3 crawled away.


#3 makes a PS


15.31 Karl covers the chicks.

15.33 KAIA is back, they exchange a short greeting.
Kaia eats a few bits of moss in the nest.
Karl gets up and flies away.


Kaia rolls the egg and moves some moss pieces.

15.35 FEEDING (8) A pile of small fish. Some fish are very tiny- maybe tadpoles instead.. #1 and #2 get a lot, #3 manages to find some smaller pieces of food and eat too.

With Kaia's feedings I have noticed that she starts to eat back the food very quickly before chicks finish eating..






Kaia covers the chicks.

15.40 Kaia stands up, arranges some hay around the nest bowl and changes her position.
15.43 Kaia changes position.
15.47 She changes position.
16.08 Kaia gets up, rolls the egg, PS-good, covers the chicks.
16.10 She rolls the egg and changes her position again.

16.11 She can't relax and is up again. Chicks are twittering and crawl to the table.

16.13 FEEDING (9) Oldr siblings eat a lot. #3 is too slow and gets a small fish at the end of the feeding. Better than nothing..




They are satisfied and fall asleep


One chick has a fish tail out from its mouth.

16.16 Kaia covers the chicks.

16.25 Kaia PS and covers the chicks again.

16.58 There is a lot of egg talk coming from under Kaia, she is restless and stands up.
Chicks are nicely cuddled together, sleeping.
Kaia cleans the chicks


1 and 2 fell asleep, 3 is twittering. I'd say it's a risky move for the little one but so far Kaia hasn't done anything dangerous.


Kaia focuses on cleaning the older chicks.
Egg is barking.
17.05 Kaia covers the chicks.

17.27 A male blackbird lands on the nearby tree.


17.40 A tiny Goldcrest whistles and jumps on the edge of the nest, between the branches. Kaia watches it.
