2022

SKIERKA was last seen with the nestlings on July 2, before noon (feeding). On July 3, she sat for a few minutes in the trees near the nest, but did not feed the young and started a great trip (great loop). On July 9 Skierka visited her nest from previous season in Wolsztyn and meet Titan, she wasn't welcome

Thank you Maria!

On 15.08, Bolek waited more than four hours in the nest to make sure that the young were no longer in the area. At the end he "bowed" :-) towards our camera, a moment later he flew away and probably will not come back to the nest this season. Female Skierka "said goodbye" to the whole family on July 2! However, what is extremely interesting, at the time when Bolek was standing in the nest for so long, the other members of this stork family were in completely different places:
Bajka U116 - in Brandenburg, over 200 km NW from the nest,
Bodzio U126 - in Saxony-Anhalt, over 200 km W of the nest,
SKIERKA - in Greater Poland, more than 40 km SE of the nest.
That's why Bolek, like the real ship's captain, was the last to leave the nest :-)

Bodzio from Bolewice in France near Lyon
BODZIO left his mother SKIERKA in Poland (she has not left yet) and "sister" BAJKA (she still feeds on the Odra River), he rushed forward and is already 1000 km from his family nest in Bolewice forest district. On the way in Germany, he parked for a few days, ate and yesterday flew almost 400 km in one day SW direction!

There are no more those "long bills": Bodzio in France, Bajka in Hungary, Skierka in Serbia, Bolek - don't know where.
That's why only tonight the raccoon managed to "obtain" and mark its nest with urine in the Bolewice Forestry 🙂

Skierka już w „drugim domu” w Grecji
Skierka, dorosła samica bociana czarnego z loggerem, zostawiła swoje dwa młode 🐥🐥 i samca Bolka 2 lipca.

EDIT/correction by Marika
SKIERKA is already in the "second home" in Greece
Skierka, an adult female of a black stork with a transmitter, left her two chicks and the male Bolek on 2 July. For almost the next two months, it forage mainly in two places in the Greater Poland Voivodeship, several dozen km SE from the nest in the Bolewice forest district and during this time it flew about 1,900 km. It can be considered that only now, at the age of six, is Skierka an experienced stork. She does not make such crazy passages as in the previous year, when she bred with the male Tytan in the Wolsztyn forest district.

She started from Poland on August 24 and in just eight days she reached the winter camp in N Greece on the Struma River near the Lake Kerkini NationalPark for the fifth time in her life. It is very fast for an autumn migration, as previous migrations took 46 days on average. It flew calmly for about 190 km a day, feeding on the way in places that were already known to her, mainly in Hungary and Serbia. If we consider that the breeding time was hard work for Skierka 🤣 then the time at the wintering site is a holiday rest period 🙂 🌴

In the period before the migration, Skierka flew about 1,900 km in 51 days

Skierka travelled 1531 km from Greater Poland to Northern Greece in eight days
