I was curious, who is the black stork with transmitter in the opening picture of the bird map - Urmas answered it is Oss
(2008 -2011 on the birdmap)

Oss on Israeli fish ponds 29/09/2010
Image
more very nice photos by Carsten Rohde https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/EN/2008/all ... =0&speed=1

(birdmap info)
Oss: male Black Stork, who breeds in Rapla county, western Estonia

2008: three chicks (one of these was also tagged and named as Ossipoeg; other storklet from the same brood has been observed in Eastern Finland) Marika: Ossipoeg last data 22.08.2008
2009: brood of Oss was eaten by predator and Oss built a new nest after that
2010: Oss has three chicks in new nest

Oss was wintering in Israel, Jezreel Valley.

Oss perished in breeding territory July 2011, most probably because of electrocution. Hence, that was not possible to proof.

Injured Ossipoeg in Sirgala 23/08/2008 - birdmap

Sirgala is a village in Ida-Viru County, Narva-Jõesuu in Estonia.
Btw. Sirgala training area (one of the six military training fields used by the Estonian Defence Force) was established on 12 June 2008; it is a reforested oil-shale mining area and covers approximately 3,000 ha (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirgala_training_area)

I haven't asked about further fate this storklet yet. EDIT today (03.02) I asked about Ossipoeg

Birdmap is set to spring migration and also the new distance measurement is starting usually from 15.02. (in the past some times also 2 weeks later).

No all black storks will appear on the map on that time (first Timmu and approx. one week later the other adult storks - situation i previous years).

Those wintering the furthest away usually start their journey home already at the end of February. However, data does not arrive until they reach areas with good GSM coverage.

Overview (first data on the birdmap):

TIMMU
- 2022, March 22 - data: 13.03/Sudan, Distance: 1055 km (later same day: data 21.03, Distance: 3291 km - Turkey)
- 2021, March 5 - data 02.03, Distance: 526 km - Eritrea
- more viewtopic.php?p=11300#p11300

KARL II
- 2022, March 14 - data: 04.03, Distance: 1605 km - Sudan, North Kordofan State
- 2021, March 8, Distance: 1760 km (Sudan)
- more viewtopic.php?p=11311#p11311

NURME
- 2022, March 28 - data 28.03, Distance: 2208 km - Egypt, Read Sea Governorate
- more viewtopic.php?p=11301#p11301

Kaia, Kergu: these adults we follow the first season

Udu, Waba, Bonus: young black storks move to their summer destination usually one month later
