continuation

Karl II did not fly directly to the African continent - he spent the night on the She-/Shadwan Island
He flew the most southerly direction (most often they fly near El Tor - the narrowest point of the Gulf of Suez)

A year ago, Madli had a personal conversation with Urmas, and then Urmas said the following:

"From Egypt, the transmitters do tend to go out of range. And then, of course, I don't know if it's out of range temporarily or permanently. If not earlier, then in spring-summer will become clear. Younger birds begin to move back later than old ones.
The appearance of Udu was a nice surprise for me too, but we have to wait for the data communication for the birdmap. SMS only helps in general to know where the bird is. That format is not suitable for the birdmap."

SEASON 2021/2022
- last autumn birdmap update: 29.10.2021/data 28.10 - near Al-Ubayyd (North Kordofan, Sudan) - viewtopic.php?p=429#p429 and viewtopic.php?p=1063#p1063
- the newest data in spring: 14.03.2022/data 04.03 - Near Umm Sayyalah (North Kordofan, Sudan) - viewtopic.php?p=1213#p1213

This year Karl II last sent data from the same area as sent Nurme last year (and vice versa: Nurme last sent data from the area as Karl II previous year)

Hopefully the transmitter will send new data again. However, we may have to wait until the spring for the new data, when it comes back into network range during spring migration.
We will see. We have to be patient and keep our fingers crossed.

In previous years we don't have new data long time too.
We should have data again during spring migration at the latest.

- SUDAN: east from the Nile, Nubian Desert, Red Sea state

arrival to the nesting area on 08.04.2022 (last update - Estonia), Distance: 7565 km

season 2020/2021 https://birdmap.5dvision.ee/EN/2021/spr ... =0&speed=1

2023

OVERVIEW
see the first post in this thread - viewtopic.php?p=8443#p8443

little modified text on the birdmap
During the 2022 migration, this area was a war zone, and Karl II's data was cut off on September 4 before reaching the occupied area. The next data transfer took place only on September 22, when Karl II reached the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, in the Dniester River delta. Then we saw that Karl II had flown to his usual stop over area on the Black Sea coast at Perekop Bay by evening September 5th, but the next day he flew away from there, 80 km north to the Dnipro river flood plaines, while checking the feeding places of previous years. In 6-19 September, Karl II stopped at the floodplains of the Dnipro river, in a militarily sense rather hot place between Kherson and Kahovka. On September 19th, Karl II went to see if the conditions on the Black Sea coast had calmed down, but turned back to the Dnipro river and from there in morning of September 20th, he flew further to the northwest, looking for suitable feeding places. In two days, without finding a good place to forage, Karl II reached the border of Moldova, in the delta of the Dniester River (by the evening of September 22).

However, we may have to wait until the spring for the new data, when it comes back into network range during spring migration.

Spring birdmap is starting from 15.02 (some times also later).

But Karl II can appear also later on the birdmap. (see also viewtopic.php?p=10809#p10809)
