SUCCESS! STORKS HAVE ACCEPTED THE NEW NEST! (GT without corrections)
18/05/2022 | BEATA KĄTNA

Black storks, which lost their nest as a result of strong winds that passed through the Turek Forest District in February this year, returned and, most importantly, accepted the rebuilt nest by foresters and the Eagle Conservation Committee.

Black storks, which lost their nest as a result of strong winds that passed through the Turek Forest District in February this year, returned and, most importantly, accepted the rebuilt nest by foresters and the Eagle Conservation Committee. There were some corrections, storks refined the nest and today we know that they are waiting for the chicks, informs Beata Kątna, nature protection specialist in the Turek Forest District.

Our observations show that this year black storks returned to the Turkow forests from Africa, where they spend the winter extremely late."I was afraid that maybe they did not accept the nest or something bad happened during their migration. In 2021, I recorded the first black stork sighting in this place on March 28. This year we had to wait until mid-April. Fortunately, they returned, now they are hatching eggs. ". - informs Sławomir Binek, forest inspector in the Turek Forest District.Black storks are extremely hidden and sensitive to human presence birds. If we had called him an introvert, we would certainly not be wrong. Due to the way it is preserved, it is necessary to create protection zones around its nests, in which the access is prohibited to unauthorized persons. All this to ensure peace for these sensitive birds.

Why is the protection of the black stork so important?
The black stork is a very rare inhabitant of Polish forests, and it leads a very secretive lifestyle. What is important is the so-called umbrella species, also called casing, target or target species. Covering species are usually easily visible taxa, present in the public consciousness and easily identifiable, "priority" from any point of view, the protection of which entails the protection of many other species, usually less showy and less "charismatic". Apart from the black stork, the umbrella species include most of the zone species.

The zone protection of the black stork in practice means that an outsider cannot come close to their nests. They are surrounded by protection zones designated by foresters, covering an area with a radius of 500 meters during the breeding season, the very location of the habitats is kept secret.

In 2021, in a nest built on a pine tree, ornithologists ringed 3 cubs, including the two strongest ones with GPS loggers. The first flight attempts were made in August.
What will this year's offspring of our stork couple look like? We don't know that yet, we have to wait until July.

It is estimated that the number of these birds reaches 1.4-1.6 thousand pairs. In the EU, as much as 25% of the European population of this bird occurs in our country. This fact imposes on us a great responsibility for the protection of both the stork and its habitat. As emphasized by naturalists, in the early 1980s, the population of this species in Poland was estimated at around 900 pairs, while in the 1960s at only 500. The exact location of black stork nests is kept secret in order to protect birds from intruders. Each pair usually builds more than one nest (their weight can be up to a ton), the next ones may be separated from each other by up to several kilometers and inhabited in the following years in the event of loss or deterioration of the quality of the basic nest.
You will be able to observe storks from the forests of Turek until autumn. In September, this species migrates to wintering grounds in East and Central Africa.

No a před 14 dny jsme ho uzdraveného s vysílačkou vypustili ještě spolu s bílým čápem do přírody😉🌳🌲.
A pokud podpoříte nákup vysílačky (23 tisíc) pomocí QR kódu, budeme moc rádi😉.
Brzy ho budete moci sledovat u nás na stránkách v mapě.
Díky za sdílení😉

GT (not corrected yet)
Do you remember last year's black stork, which I caught under the el. management? I was going to the dentist's at the time, so he rode with me in the trunk. (By the way, when they noticed in the surgery that I had a "scratched" hand and I told them a story with a stork, I had to take him to show in front of the surgery, it was a lift)
And 14 days ago we released him healed with a radio with a white stork in the wild. And I think the radio saved his life in a few days. After all, he hadn't flown for half a year, so it wasn't easy at first and he stopped flying more. According to GPS, we found his accommodation and small fish drove him there for a few days. But he was already recovering and set off a few days ago. The day before yesterday he spent the night at Blatná, yesterday at Nepomuk and today he is at Domažlice. We do not know where he will fly, especially if he is healthy.
So everyone keep their fingers crossed that he will need it.
And if you support the purchase of a radio (23 thousand) using a QR code, we will be very happy.
You will soon be able to follow it on our map page.
Thanks for sharing

RESCUE STATION Makov, CZ

very sad news https://www.facebook.com/liborZmakova/p ... DxNZAxB7al

I would love to write you a better report, but I don't have it..😞
This morning we found only the remains of our released black stork near Horšovské Týn in Domažlice. We don't know what happened to him. The last week, after flying about 100 km from us, he stayed on a half-empty pond. This is an ideal hunting ground for black storks. Even today, in search of the radio, the pond was full of frogs. Next to the railway, he could walk in the track, but it could be anything, we won't know.
Such is the work in rescue stations, unfortunately. So maybe next time better news.

Early yesterday morning I met a black stork on the forest road standing in the middle of the road wondering who was coming behind. In the ditch water on both sides of the road, he was busy to catch his catch.
Anyway, it was a rare encounter.

15 June 2022

Traurige Geschichte:

Sad story :
This black stork in the Leitschtal near Steinwiesen had a fatal accident in early June.
A woman had observed that he had crashed while approaching a power line, unfortunately that was his end.
Exciting that the stork was ringed, upon request from Black Stork expert Carsten Rohde we learned that this bird was ringed in the Czech Republic in 2006 and can be proven as a breeding bird in 2014 and 2015 in the Wallenfels area nested.
Every year he overwintered in Spain, where he was regularly observed by ornithologists.
The bird was now 16 years old and therefore also very experienced.
Unfortunately, it is feared that somewhere a nest with young birds has to be taken care of by the remaining partner - it is hard to estimate whether all of them will survive.

The question is often asked how many years a bird lives. The answer is not simple because it depends on a lot of things. Primarily about the predictability of the environment and luck. If year after year is optimal for all the nesting, migrating and wintering areas, and avoid predators or parasites, diseases, there is a chance that a bird will reach a good age. But there is no such thing, there is always some disturbance that affects the life course of the animals.

HUNGARY
continuation:

If the mass of the age groups of a bird species is plotted on a laid bar chart, a pyramid shape is obtained. At the bottom, in the largest numbers, there are young people who have just flown out, but by the second year, that number is falling sharply. Survival of the first year is very difficult for inexperienced young birds that are still flying precariously. At the top of the pyramid will be the few individuals worth the Methuselah age. But what is this age? I don't know exactly that. This can be deduced from the results of bird ringing. We only know the exact age of birds marked at the time of hatching and later observed or bypassed. But even so, we can only get an approximate picture, because we may not have known the oldest bird, most likely the ring we just didn’t get.

At the beginning of June, a ringed black stork was photographed not far from Szolnok in the floodplain of the Tisza (Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, Ákos Monoki, Gábor Nagy). The bird was ringed in the floodplain forest of the Danube on the border of Hercegszántó (Bács-Kiskun county, Béla Kalocsa) in July 2003. It is currently the oldest bypassed ringed black stork in the Hungarian bird ringing database. This is not the first time the bird has been in sight, it has seen a total of 11 sightings over the past 19 years, thanks to its marker ring that can be read with a telescope. One time in 2005, it was also seen in Israel during the migration period, the rest of the data comes from domestic observations. It was found in the nesting area of the Tisza floodplain in Hungary every time. A photo of him was also taken in 2015 (Ákos Monoki).

Image

This bird is not only in the first place in the list of black stork ages in the Hungarian database, but it has also taken the lead on the basis of the EURING database. https://euring.org/data-and-codes/longevity-list

The black stork nests in undisturbed, closed forests, most commonly in the dense floodplain forests of rivers. A long-distance migratory, winter is spent in sub-Saharan Africa.

Based on current data, so the black stork can live up to 19 years, but presumably there are specimens older than that.

HUNGARY (Czech Rep.)
I remembered on this information:
https://www.mme.hu/kozel-20-eves-fekete ... arorszagon

A nearly 20-year-old black stork has been observed in Hungary
In mid-August, a Czech ringed black stork, marked in 1998, was observed near Kenderes.

The bird was ringed as a chick (Frantisek Pojer) and has only been spotted once in 2013 in the Czech Republic. Currently, this oldest ringed black stork takes the lead in the Hungarian bird ringing database and the EURING (European Union for Bird Ringing) record list (www.euring.org/data-and-codes/longevity-list).

big map https://www.mme.hu/sites/default/files/ ... 0824_4.jpg

In the Hungarian bird ringing database, the other black stork of the “Methuselah age” (Tobias) was ringed at home in 1999 (Béla Kalocsa) and has been spending in a nest with camera since 2013: http://gemenczrt.hu/media/feketegolya-ėpek/ (Marika: Tobiás did not return to the nest in the spring of 2019 - his photo is in headher)

The black stork is a long-range migratory. Utilizing the warm air currents that take off, it moves thermal. The European stork uses two main migratory routes: the eastern route through Turkey and Israel, and the western route through the Pyrenees and Gibraltar. Most of the Hungarian flocks leaves their nesting area between mid-August and the end of September. The spring migration lasts from February to April. The information available to us on the migration is largely known from colour ring readings and satellite tracking results.

Nacieszcie oko razem ze mną!
Bociany czarne, gwarowo hajstra (Ciconia nigra), w przeciwieństwie do spokrewnionych z nimi bocianów białych (Ciconia ciconia) to ptaki płochliwe i wiodące skryty tryb życia. Zamieszkują mokradła, okolice rzek i jezior. Gniazda umiejscawiają na dużych leśnych drzewach. Raniutko w niezwykłej scenerii przytulony do ziemi obserwowałem trzy (zdaje się rodzinka) pięknie ubarwione Ciconie, swobodnie brodzące w płytkiej wodzie w poszukiwaniu płazów i rybek.
Bory Tucholskie, Kociewie, 26.06.2022

Enjoy your eye with me!
Black storks, hajstra dialect (Ciconia nigra), in contrast to their related white storks (Ciconia ciconia), are timid and secretive birds. They live in wetlands, rivers and lakes. They locate nests on large forest trees. In the early morning, in an unusual scenery, hugging the ground, I watched three beautifully colored Ciconie (it seems a family), freely wading in shallow water in search of amphibians and fish. As for this scenery .... The telephoto lens narrowed it a lot, cut the sides, it did not show the floors of trees, all this coastal bush, reeds and it did not catch all the sparkles and chiaroscuro, and that this water stands under a huge green vault of boron, but instead he brought the birds closer. I could see the whole thing from time to time by taking my eye off the viewfinder. It would be best for me to observe both, but well, something for something.

Baby boom w Turku❗Czy będziemy wypłacać 500+❓Otóż nie, bo baby boom dotyczy bocianów czarnych 🙂
TO REKORD❗ Udało się zaobrączkować aż 1️⃣3️⃣ młodych! Niesamowite, że w jednym z gniazd bociania para odchowuje aż 4️⃣ pisklęta. To naprawdę wielki wysiłek, zaskakujące, że cała czwórka to silne i zdrowe osobniki!
Jesteśmy pod wrażeniem, a wy❓
Razem z przedstawicielami Komitet Ochrony Orłów BocianiMy udało nam się wraz z końcem czerwca odwiedzić gniazda bocianów czarnych i zaobrączkować tegoroczny przychówek.
Ku naszemu zdziwieniu i radości ten rok jest wyjątkowy. Zaczęliśmy go boleśnie, ponieważ jedno z gniazd nie wytrzymało starcia z lutowym żywiołem, silnym wiatrem i spadło.

Baby boom in Turku❗Will we pay out 500 + ❓ Well, no, because baby boom concerns black storks 🙂
THIS IS A RECORD We managed to ring as many as 1️⃣3️⃣ young people! It's amazing that in one of the stork's nests a couple raise as many as 4️⃣ chicks. This is a really great effort and it is surprising that all four of them are strong and healthy!
We are impressed, and you❓
Together with the representatives of the Stork Eagles Conservation Committee, at the end of June, we managed to visit the nests of black storks and ring this year's offspring.
To our surprise and joy, this year is special. We started it painfully, because one of the nests could not stand the clash with the February element, strong wind, and it fell. There was a concern that setting up a new nest by storks would delay their mating season, which would mean that the chicks would have a shorter time to prepare for the hardships of a dangerous journey to warm countries. Together, we made a decision to rebuild the nest.
Today we know that our work has been accepted by these extraordinary birds. A pair of storks have 2 strong chicks in it (we informed about the matter in the article, which you can find in the link under the post).
