not only did Julge use the ship for migration - but the stork in this story had to be rescued

Black stork rescue in the Red Sea

"Laura Kons 29 September 2021
The miracle of the rarest black stork rescue in the Red Sea today.
Black storks spend winter in Sudan and Ethiopia, their path lies through Egypt.
Kiters from Ukraine found this exhausted stork not far from their yacht, off the coast of Hurghada. The stork swayed motionlessly on the waves, wings spread. The guys swam up to him, the stork did not resist when they carefully brought him aboard.
The stork was carefully dried, fed with fresh fish, and given plenty of fresh water to drink.
The black stork rested for a long time and gained strength, examined the yacht, walked through the decks. And having gained strength, he flapped his wings and rose into the sky. There is a long way ahead.
Happy wintering, black stork!"

A young black stork has just arrived at the Forest Animal Rehabilitation Center of the Piotrków Forest District. Thanks to the help of foresters from the Bełchatów Forest Inspectorate and the State Forests, the bird quickly came under our care. We know from preliminary data that he was ringed on June 28 in the Turek Forest District - State Forests, then he stayed near Sochaczew, where the satellite signal broke off. Exhausted, found in a corn field near Bełchatów by the farmer who first fed the hungry young man. He will stay with us until spring. A number of preventive examinations await him. The reason why he stayed in our country for the winter is not known yet.

We have not been able to establish the reason why the black stork, who came to us from the Bełchatów Forest District, stayed in Poland for the winter. X-ray pictures of the wings did not show any lesions, the bird is in good condition, because the weight at the time of delivery is 3200 g. Our research team still has an unsolved mystery. The stork feels good and calmly waits in the Forest Animal Rehabilitation Center of the Piotrków Forest District until spring. And it's getting closer to her.

The black stork you see here was brought to us by Eran Zuckerman, who rescued it after it had gotten entangled in wires in a fish farm 😢
When the stork arrived at the clinic it couldn't stand on its legs. After some tests and x-rays, which revealed no anomalous findings such as bullet wounds or fractured bones, the stork was kept for observation and rest.
The next morning the stork managed to stand on both legs, with a slight limp resulting from a laceration in the thigh area, probably caused by the wires it was entangled in. The cut was sutured by the amazing Dr. Michael Vodovozov, and the darling stork is being transferred to the Wildlife Hospital to continue its recovery 🙏🏼

An unusual admittance....a sub-adult Black Stork (Ciconia nigra)
This bird was found unable to fly in the Karkloof area. The Black Stork is an uncommon sighting and the distribution in South Africa is scattered. 🤭
The stork came in with a possible broken radius. The wing was strapped to support it, and the stork received the necessary treatments to ease its pain. We have booked a veterinary appointment at the Hilton Vet Hospital for further veterinary assistance. 😷
We will keep you updated on this patient. 😋
A big THANK YOU to Ingrid Bensen for her assistance in this rescue. 💓
We love what we do, and how we do it... 💓💓

Update on the Black Stork in care...💓
The Black Stork was taken through to Hilton Vet Hospital. X-rays were needed to determine the extent of the injury on the left-wing. Unfortunately, not only the radius but the ulna bone was broken too. Together these bones make up the forearm of a bird similar to the human forearm. 🤭
While the broken bones were not good news, the breaks were at least operable. The stork was booked in for surgery the following day. During the surgery, two metal pins were placed in the wing. One pin was placed into the ulna and the other into the radius bone. These pins are placed to secure the bone fragments into the correct position and allows healing to take place. 💓
The stork's surgery went well and he will be taken back to FreeMe Wildlife for post-operative care and cage rest to allow time to heal.😷

GERMANY, 18.01.2022

Polizei NRW Heinsberg

"A big black bird is endangering traffic.“ This is the dedication our colleagues received on Friday afternoon. So they headed to the bus station in Heinsberg, where the animal was spotted.
When the colleagues arrived, the long-legged bird was just resting on closed tracks, where several attentive passers-by kept it in sight. In order to avoid further dangers to humans and animals, our colleague took two quick steps on the bird and caught it with a hearty handle.
Colleagues brought the exhausted animal to a vet shortly after. This one identified the bird as a black stork - a strictly protected species in Germany. She was surprised to see the stork this time of year here in the area.
The investigation resulted: the stork was severely under-cooled, but otherwise apparently uninjured. The veterinarian first took the bird into her care, then informed a suspension station. There the stork can be professionally picked up.
We wish our new animal acquaintance a speedy recovery!

Stork can be released at the earliest when sufficient food is available. It's a juvenile from last year. This makes it twice as hard! Now he needs freshwater fish and little human contact. I really hope he still makes it.

This bird has already been seen on the River Rur (Jungen Rur), several times (see ornitho). Apparently he didn't find enough food. It's nice that he's being taken care of now.

I am so sorry :(

necropsy photos description is very interesting (but be careful if you are very sensitive)

in comments:
"Caroline Walta
Very interesting autopsy. Even without injuries, a black stork is extremely difficult to rehabilitate. In the stork center, we even lost birds that looked healthy after a few months. They are very vulnerable." ...

btw.
A necropsy is an examination of an animal body after death. Strictly speaking, the word necropsy is a synonym of autopsy and may be used to mean the examination of any body after death, including a human body. However, in standard English usage it is primarily used when discussing the examination of an animal. An autopsy is an examination of a human body after death. (see e.g. https://cwhl.vet.cornell.edu/article/wh ... ostic-tool, https://www.sciencenewsforstudents.org/ ... d-necropsy)
