small river treatment works take place every year in Estonia https://www.talgud.ee/en (as well in Latvia )
our Madli also took part in one such event this autumn (2021) :D (viewtopic.php?p=449#p449)
Yes, Indeed I also volunteered in such activity myself at the end of November in Pärnu county.

Although the number of black storks has always been small here, it is now quite rare. There are various reasons, but the main role is certainly played by the felling of large forest massifs and the deterioration of streams suitable for feeding. We cannot bring back the felled forests with the work, but we can facilitate the access of black storks to their feeding grounds. There are several forest streams in Estonia where this mysterious bird is looking for food. By thinning the bushes from the shores of these water bodies, we ensure better access to the black stork and the opportunity to escape quickly as the predators approach. Lack of food is one of the main reasons why black storks fail to raise their young.

The bigger was my surprise when I found out that the stream we are working on, is one of TIMMU's feeding places! This really warmed my heart. Timmu's nest is about 10 km from this stream.

We had an unexpected snowfall in the last evening/night, this made the working conditions a little more extreme, but we survived :D First, we needed to walk 1,4 km through this dense forest to arrive to the working section.

Beavers are busy there...as we see, the water level was quite high...crossing this dam was the only way to get to the other side!

This is the side where the thick bushes have been cut off already but not yet thrown further from the bank..

And this is the finished side.

Would I do it again in the future (next autumn)? YES!

POLAND - nest restoration

No i we wtorek trzy godziny i gniazdo gotowe! 🙂 W imieniu bocianów, które za chwilę powinny powrócić, podziękowania dla #KOO firmie #ALPWOOD i turkowskich leśników, którzy nie pierwszy raz chętnie zostali po godzinach i pomogli (fot. Reconstruction of the stork nest in Turku
On Monday it turned out that the storms at the beginning of this year also destroyed the nest of the black stork in the Turek Forest District, where the birds successfully led the young out for several years in a row. Some of them even received loggers as part of our #BocianiMywLasach project. The photos show the various stages of the reconstruction of the nest, which has completely fallen down. The action was on the cito! And on Tuesday, three hours and the nest is ready! 🙂 On behalf of the storks, who should return in a moment, thanks to #KOO to the #ALPWOOD company and Turek foresters, who were willing to stay after hours and help not for the first time (photo: D. FB news Batumi Raptor Count
Heavy snowfall is still thwarting migration through the Batumi bottleneck, so we spend most of our time inside our guesthouse. Every now and then, though, there is a break in the bad weather spell and we are able to see the mountains and the sea again. It is during these moments that we quickly grab our optics and head up to see what’s flying. Thanks to the snow-covered landscape, light reflects beautifully on the birds flying past our counters. A big thank you to SWAROVSKI OPTIK Birding, providing our team with top-notch optics, contributing even more to beautiful views of the birds daring to fly through the snow-blanketed bottleneck!

FB news from Regionalna Dyrekcja Lasów Państwowych w Łodzi
POLAND, April 2022

https://www.facebook.com/LasyPanstwoweL ... 6062208300

He stayed at the Animal Rehabilitation Center in the Piotrków Forest District, State Forests, since November 2021 - he was released by us on April 1, 2022! 💚
👉This is an individual at the age of 10 months, hatched on May 26, 2021, but for some reason did not set off on his first foreign trip. 😢
🧐The bird had a satellite transmitter installed, which stopped broadcasting near Sochaczew on August 23, 2021.On November 15, in the Bełchatów Forest District, State Forests, it was found in a corn field by a local farmer who had been watching a stork in the same place for several days and saw that that he does not depart from there.
The stork was very weak, hungry, let himself be caught without any special equipment and eagerly ate the meat offered to him by the host. The man called Paweł Kowalski and brought the stork to the Forest Educational Settlement in Koło. The bird was x-rayed, but no reason could be found for interrupting the autumn hike - perhaps the reason was a collision with an obstacle that left no visible traces🤔.
The stork remained under observation in the Animal Rehabilitation Center. It was too late to release him in the fall and our stork spent the winter in the aviary. The young stork, released on April 1, has not yet departed. For now, it sticks to the familiar area - here it has two ponds with fish, as well as many relatives, but still the more common ones - white storks.

Black stork makes a detour to church in the center of Essen

Some residents of Essen were able to take pictures of a black stork totally unexpectedly and fairly easily on Monday. It has been spotted more and more in recent years, but it remains rather exceptional.

The black stork walked around at ease at the church in Essen and it was also spotted in the Karamelstraat where it was walking quietly through the street. He didn't seem to be interested in the 'interest'. Normally the black stork is a very shy bird, but that was a bit different with this one.

The black stork, which lost its ability to fly because its wing feathers were cut off on the migration route in Diyarbakır, was released into nature after treatment and rehabilitation. Black stork, one of the rare migratory bird species in Turkey, met with nature after 8 months.

The bullies cut off his wing feathers. The black stork therefore lost its ability to fly. It was in bad shape when found. After his treatment, he was released into the wild.

Black storks, which have a higher population in the Caucasus, Carpathians and Spain, establish their nests in isolated places in Turkey, although it is rare. About 8 months ago, a black stork was found by the citizens in the Tigris Valley with its wing feathers cut off.

The black stork was taken to the Dicle Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center by the teams of the Nature Conservation and National Parks Diyarbakır Branch Directorate. Here, his treatment and rehabilitation was completed.

The black stork spent the winter in the center. Teams were released into nature with 3 falcons in the Şeyhandede Waterfall area in Çermik district, which is suitable for living space.

Dicle University Veterinary Faculty, Head of Laboratory Animals Department and deputy director of the center, Assoc. Dr. Alaettin Kaya made important warnings.
Ahmet Çörtük, the 15th Regional Director of Nature Conservation and National Parks, emphasized that their special guests, the black stork, are carefully looked after.

Do you know Divona ❓
12 year old male black stork nesting at the Parc national de forêts just 7km from the tree that saw him born. Divona has been followed since 2015 by a beacon (? marika: tag = transmitter) to track her movements, understand her behaviour... and thus enrich knowledge of this species to better protect it! With Sylvana he is one of the "star" couples of the National Forest Park.
Tracking beacon in partnership with Coordination nationale Réseau Cigogne noire ONF LPO and ACETAM
