October 2

Good afternoon everyone

POLISH BLACK STORKS from the nest of WOLSZTYN

The female stork SKIERKA hatched in 2017 in a nest in the Skierniewice Forest District, she was equipped with a transmitter and we followed her path on an online map within the Stork Project BocianiMy as Żółty (Yellow)

Her first wintering ground 2017/2018 - Saudi Arabia
next 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 she wintered in Greece, Kerkini NP

In 2020, she returned to Poland at the age of three and made her first attempt at nesting. She found a nest occupied by another stork, but unfortunately in the following days she was expelled from the nest by a domestic female.

In 2021, she settled in the nest of Wolsztyn together with her partner TYTAN (he has no transmitter) and their nesting could be watched on a webcam.
They brought out two young storks this season (TYTUS and SKARLET). Both were also equipped with transmitters. They began their first migration on August 21, 2021.
Unfortunately, we cannot follow them on the online map. But on the FB page BocianiMy we will be able to monitor at least once in a while information about their journey.

POLISH BLACK STORKS from the nest of WOLSZTYN - continuation

According to the latest information from September 20, 2021 are:
SKIERKA (VT3726) - northern Greece, her annual wintering ground
TYTUS (17J6) - southern Hungary
SKARLET (16J6) - Northern Israel

GT: "Where are the storks from the Wolsztyn Forest District?
Time for a short summary after a month of migration of the heroes of the online broadcast from the Wolsztyn Forest District.
The female Skierka left her offspring on August 18 and on September 11 she flew to the wintering grounds in Greece. Father Tytan disappeared (and stopped feeding) two days later, so the young storks took off on August 21. Młodziak Tytus is still stationed in Hungary in the Tisza valley, while Skarlet checked in today in N Israel. Thus, it can be seen that the whole family lives completely separate after one month of starting migration. Such a stork's fate ... but the most important thing is that so far all the birds are doing well"

GT: Florek, after just one day of stopping at Marusza, on September 23, continued his journey😍. He arrived on the shores of the Sea of Marmara on September 26 at 10:57. Freesia, after a 42-day stop at the confluence of the Seret and Danube rivers, set off south on September 25. She appeared on the shores of the Sea of Marmara on September 27 at 07:58. She was one day late to meet her brother🧐. Their hiking paths crossed directly over the Sea of Marmara. In the Asian part of Turkey, Freesia flew on in the footsteps of Florek, but Florek did not wait. Still one day ahead. On September 27, both storks spent the night in western Turkey 162 km apart.

Hi Hana,
thanx for updating
btw. where you read about "Kolumna Forest District" ?

FREZJA - that localisation is in Karula's wintering area. Who know if Frezja will stay there for the winter too.
FLOREK - I am curious where this young stork will fly to spend the winter.

This is not the Kolumna forest inspectorate, it is enough RDLP in Łódź ;)

POLISH BLACK STORK ZŁOCZEW
FB news 6 Oct at 8:35 https://www.facebook.com/LasyPanstwoweL ... 5053323407

#bocianyczarneonline 🎬 Pionier - a stork from Złoczew (born in '20)
The autumn migration of a black stork hatched in 2020 in a nest in the forests of the Złoczew Forest District State Forests RDSF in Łódź looks very interesting. In 2021, this stork spent the summer in the south of Ukraine and in Russia between the Don and the Volga, far beyond the Sea of Azov. In mid-September 2021, he began his autumn trek.
He could come back "in the footsteps" 🤔 through Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey, but headed south - straight into the mighty Caucasus. He was not scared by the peaks over 5,000 meters high. m above sea level, of which the most famous in Poland are Elbrus (5642 m) and Kazbek (5054 m). He flew into the Caucasus Mountains through the valley of the Ardon River from Russia. Initially, it flew along the Ossetian Military Road, but later abandoned the meanders of the rock road and flew straight south. Its GPS tracked down just before the Caucasus ridge at an altitude of 3,606 m. It was easier then. It flew across all of Georgia, then through eastern Turkey, western Iraq, and flew into Saudi Arabia. He did not notice his fellow Estonian 🤗-Eedy, who had flown there before and stopped for a longer stop about 90 km from the shore of the Red Sea. Our stork flew on and finally reached the shore of the Red Sea. And here a new, serious problem emerged. The Red Sea there is about 220 km wide.
Such a flight over water is within the range of a black stork, but it is also very exhausting, because there are no ascending currents above the water, helping to soar high into the air over land and then glide, slowly losing altitude, but at the same time saving energy for further active flight . 💪
Our stork chose the safer option and flew south over the mainland to the very end of the Arabian Peninsula
