Hatched in 2021 in Smiltene county, Latvia (wearing a ring with the Latvian code 0XUC, ringed by Maris Strazds in northwestern Latvia on July 4 as one of four chicks).
She started migration 200 km north to Estonia and stayed there to stop at a household. She was captured by the people of the Estonian Wildlife Society and the Environmental Board and delivered her to Tartu, to the animal clinic of the University of Life Sciences under the care of Dr vet Madis Leivits. The young bird was clearly underweight on arrival. At the animal clinic, she had to be fed for 11 days until her weight reached normal. Based on the outlook, pictures and measurements, she is probably a female. Maris Strazds asked to name the stork as Katrin.

Katrin stayed near a household for several days before taken to a vet.


Katrin was released in southwestern Estonia near Häädemeeste on September 15.

She arrived in Poland on September 19 and Ukraine September 21. After a few days, on September 24 Katrin was in Romania.

Since August 24, Katrin has spent time near a village called Cotoroaia in Romania.

Her favourite feeding place is a small river or a stream going into the Cotoroaia Lake.



She has made soms big exploration trips.



We will see what will she do next.

Previous data: 29.09.21. Distance 1752 km( +25 km). Near Crivești, Romania.
New data: 01.10.21. Distance 1785 km( + 33 km/ 2 days). Cotoroaia, Romania.

Katrin started from the forest above and flew down back to Cotoroaia. She went back to her favourite feeding place- small stream.

new birdmap update for 1.10.21 evening:

Previous data: 01.10.2021(morning). Distance 1785 km( +33 km). Near Cotoroaia, Romania.
New data: 01.10.21(evening). Distance 1806 km( + 21 km). Katrin returned to the forest for night rest where she started her day between villages Gefu and Crivești, Romania.

After a trip to Cotoroaia in the morning, she explored the eastern side of the area today and returned to the Forest where she spent the night the day before.
