Previous season Karl II reached his wintering site (border area CAR - DRC, Mbomou river) on 08.12.2020 (Karl had 2 longer stops before he reached this area) and to spring migration started on 23.2.2021

KARL II birdmap update

Previous data (last on autumn migration map) 28.10.21 Distance 7083 km. Near Al-Ubayyd, North Kordofan, Sudan.
New data: 14.02.22. Distance 10112 km(+3029 km). At his wintering area in the southern border of the Central African Republic, Mbomou prefecture.



Karl II's first wintering area is in Western Bahr El Ghazal region, Raga county, South Sudan. he spent there total of 35 days before moving to his second, main wintering area.
This is an area of tropical savanna with grass and woodlands.

The main wintering area is on the border of the Central African Republic (CAR) and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The two countries are divided by the Mbomou river. Karl II was in the same place also last year.

Karl II's wintering area in the DRC part lies in the Bili complex- isolated group of wildlife reserves including the Bili-Uele Hunting Area and the Mbomou East and West Faunal Reserves.

Karl II started the autumn migration on 23.august and reached his final destination on 6.december. This makes the whole migration travelling time (including different stopovers) 105 days!
