Karl II visited the western lower bank of the Beyşehir Lake. This is part of the Beyşehir Lake National Park.

Beyşehir Lake National Park is the Turkey’s largest closed watershed with an overall area of 88.750 ha. Wetlands surrounding the Beysehir Lake and its 33 small islands are very important for breeding and migrating birds. The lake has several “protection statues”; it is declared as a Class A Ramsar Site Wetland and two areas namely Lake Beysehir itself and Kizildag (Kızıldağ) are designated as National Park.

Karl II stayed in the Lake Beyşehir area, but moved to the upper west bank. He is now near the Sarıkaya village. This upper part of the lake is situated already in Isparta Province. This part of the lake is also a part of the Kızıldağ National Park. (Red Mountain NP)

Karl II covered a long distance and continued straight forward in NW direction over Turkey. He crossed the Dardanelles and Saros Gulf to reach the European part of Turkey. Last data received from Karl II was on fly over the forests of Gökçetepe in Edirne Province.

- to the west from suburb kv. Kus - Kaolinovo ( Kaolinovo is the administrative center of Kaolinovo municipality. It is included in Shoumen district - North-Eastern planing region of Bulgaria.)

Pollution of Ergene River and Basin

The water sources that feed Ergene River and the agricultural lands that are irrigated with this water are being threatened by industrial and domestic wastes originating from regional factories, the quarries established in Istranca Mountains, unregulated industrialization and unplanned urbanization of the region. As a result, Thraces centuries old agrarian structure is coming to an end and the pollution in Ergene River is jeopardising the habitat of all living creatures. The inhabitants of the region are faced with severe costs every single day.
