📣 Stork news❗️
The hawk continues to try to surprise our storks 😓 On Saturday, July 23, at 2:21 pm, it flew at the nest from the left ⬅️ Both storks were looking 👀 then to the right. This provoked the hawk to attack in a flash. The more vigilant Figo 🧐go noticed, but it was no use ruffling his feathers, snapping his bill and making throaty voices 🦅The hawk did not give up its attack. Fago reacted with minimal delay ⌚️Not surprisingly, the hawk chose Fago as potential prey. The hawk, seeing that Fago's back was turned to him and had not yet figured out from which side the attack would come 🫣🫣 instantly aimed its flight at Fago and lowered its talons hoping to grab him by the head, neck or wing (whatever) and pull him down from the nest ⬇️ where he could easily kill the stork, which is not yet able to fly away in case of danger ❌ and, in addition, the sudden fall from the nest to the ground would surely stun it 😵 However, at the last moment, Fago managed to turn around and, seeing the attacking hawk, made a deep dodge 🤩 Figo did the same. Although the hawk lowered its talons, but did not risk lowering its flight and, as a result, did not catch anything. He flew over the storks and flew on to hunt 🍴 He gave up attacking again, because at this point he could no longer use the element of surprise 🤔 and an encounter with the two already hard bills of the stork's prepared-to-defend underlings would have been too risky for the female hawk ☢️ However, for the rest of the chicks' stay in the nest, we cannot underestimate the hawk, although the chances of a successful attack are minimal 😊

Piotr Zieliński (corrections morning - 26.7, I am already very tired - done)

FEEDINGS
- Feeding x 3
- Florentino x 2. Fermina x 1
- Fermina brought some frogs, all of them were eaten by Figo

PREMATURE FLEDGE (description of today event)
!!! Figo has landed on Fago
- 8:51 Fago(Figo) hits Figo(Fago) on a thick branch; 8:54 Fago(Figo) jumps down on the nest, Figo(Fago) on the branch
- Fago(Figo) liked the trips to the thick branch; flies again at 8:59, but it carried him a little too far, that is, he already knew how to fly, worse with piloting and landing and if this Figo(Fago) hadn't been standing there like ? ("gapa" = indifferent, inattentive man) it would be able to land; landed on Figo's(Fago) back, and the back flew off (?"a plecy odleciały"); everyone would be surprised by this; he flew down to Figo(Fago)
- there is an old forest road under; they couldn't hurt themselves there; they stayed down and didn't know what to do

Q Grażyna J.: I don't know, but when I watch the movie again, it seems to me that Fago was standing on the bough and Figo was trying to land. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think so.
APiotr Zieliński @ Grażyna J sure, you are right; Figo has landed on Fago

- at 9:42 Flo came back to; Flo flew down and went back to the nest and flew again; stayed downstairs; we don't know if he fed the chicks; at 9:49:40 the Flo flew away
- At 10:34 they call again, they saw Fer ; 10:35 Fer arrives at the nest, waits a long time and flies out close by; the chicks are constantly calling; 10:47 Fer comes back from a nearby one;
- 10:48 you hear that one young landed on the nearby; 10:49 flew closer; 10:50 am Figo lands next to Fer and immediately get frogs as a reward; Fer is flying away 10:50 it is Figo who lands next to Fer and immediately gets frogs as a reward
- 10:53 you hear the flight of another stork - it lands on a nearby one; 10:57 is Fago - lands on the nest
- both chicks were very stressed after this adventure; they immediately lay down, they didn't even want to stand
- but then two feedings of fish from Flo made them feel better
- that is, for one, they have had a flight to a nearby one and visiting the immediate vicinity of the nest

Piotr Zieliński (corrections morning - 27.7, I am already very tired - done)

- flight of the day - Fago 8:20 - first unforced departure outside the nest
- he did it neatly
- only today both fledlings noticed that the branches were there to be climbed on
- Figo saw a thick branch in front of him, and Fago saw a branch under the camera
- they still have a left branch, but they are afraid that it is too thin for them
- Fago is hiding under the camera, but I hope he will not check if the camera is suitable for food😄

FEEDINGs
- Feeding x 3
- Flo x 2 Fer x 1,
- there were fish, frogs, frogs

VISITORs
- 09:24 deer are running around in the woods;
- 18:24 - flight of the buzzard; this buzzard is an old friend of ours - it's a bit brighter than the others

TRANSMITTERs
- the one from Piotrków is still in N Moldova
-

Q
Barbara O.:@Piotr Zieliński Frezja and Florek still do not speak up?
(Marika: Frezja and Florek are chicks from this nest hatched in 2021)
A
Piotr Zieliński: @Barbara O. - you can't count on Florek, because he did not fly over the Sahara in autumn 2021, and Frezja may still let you know - Frezija: the last signal of the Ethiopia / Eritrea borderland on May 2, 2022

Q
Barbara O.: @Piotr Zieliński could Florek have died?
A
Piotr Zieliński: @Barbara O. - most likely above the Sahara

July 27 (I amd tired again - corrections in the morning)

(prof. PZ has his tennis match) mod. Zdislaw:

First , a short reflection. If anyone has not seen this morning's events, then he has not seen anything.
There is no doubt that it was Fago's morning.
Let our ladies not poke their noses, but everything indicates that this is a girl.

It started when Fago made a beautiful flight between 5:44 and 5:46. And that was the beginning of this morning.
It has already gone on. 6:53 another departure and landing behind the branch. Later, departure, return and meeting with Flo.
I will not give any more time trials, because you can't see it anymore.
This happened until 8:00 AM, when Fer fed the frogs to the storks

Then another feedings and finally 3:00 PM. Figo, encouraged by Fago, makes his first planned flight.
A few more feedings and actually ... boredom.

FEEDINGs
As for this stage of our baby's life, it's a revelation. 6 feedings. Both parents after 3.

🎬TROUBLE FLIGHTS AND RETURNS
On July 27, Figo has been observing multiple departures and returns to his sister Fago's nest since the morning, but he himself is limited to just flying up within the nest🧐. At 2:57 pm, Fago flies off to the right again. Figo looks in that direction. He is overcome with emotion - you can see it from the moody feathers of his head. On the one hand, he feels strong💪 and ready to fly, on the other hand, he may have bad memories of his and his sister's first forced, altogether by himself😉 and not very successful flight to the forest floor and a difficult return to the nest on July 25.
Now she spreads her wings several times. He keeps looking to the right👀 - that's where his sister flew. Probably sees her in the distance.
Finally at 15:00:14 she retreats a few steps, takes a short run, helps herself with a two-legged burst and at 15:00:18 gracefully flies out of the nest. Finally - we've all been waiting for this💚. He returns after 14 minutes and lands nicely on the nest, immediately followed by his sister - they must have enjoyed a free flight together✈️.
🤓Summary:
Figo took his first unforced flight at 69 days, a little later than other black storks usually do - the average for many nests is 66 days. It is possible that Figo was more frightened than Fago by the forced flight from the nest two days earlier (we don't know what the landing under Figo and Fago's nest looked like).
At 15:17 the situation from several minutes ago repeats itself. First at 15:17:26 Fago takes off, and immediately after her at 15:17:56 directly from a thick bough, already without a run-up, Figo flies out. After returning, our storks are fed twice more by Florentino and Fermina. Finally, full and tired from the active day, at 18:51 they lie down side by side and rest.😍

I read from the previous post words "sister Fago".

Is it known 100% that Figo is a male and Fago is a female?
That would be nice :P
