Sigulda Municipality (Grāfs and Grāfiene)

Grafs flew in and out today. He brought in some very big branches and worked on the nest a lot.


Grafs spends the night alone in the nest.

April 11

Hello!

5.55 Grafs wakes up and starts working on the nest.

He works all morning, bringing in quite big branches and fluffy green moss. The nest is getting bigger


8.49 He starts to look up. There could be another stork around. Perhaps a female
8.54 He starts calling
8.57 He still looks up and continues to call, but again his calls go unanswered.


9.10 He starts calling again from a high branch.
9.26 Time for some rest.
9.33 Grafs flies out. But the nest looks already good

9.37 Grafs returns with some nest material
He goes in and out a few times ..

10.26 He starts calling again.
He keeps looking and calling..
10.32 Grafs leaves.

[Madli]

12.43 Grafs returns with a small piece of nest material.
He looks around and starts to arrange little twigs around the nest.

13.28 Grafs flies out.

15.46 It starts to rain.
Grafs hasn't returned yet.

16.18 Grafs returns with moss.
He really doesn't like this small sidebranch.


16.24 He flies away.
19.28 Grafs returns for the night. His neck feathers are wet.

6.28- 08.09 Grafs brought in a lot of twigs.

8.21 Grafs looks up and starts calling. He flies out from an unusual place..

08.28 He returns, looks around and lies down

8.58 Brings moss
9.04 Out

09.10- 10.03 Grafs brings in different nest material and works on the nest.
He settles to relax.
10.40 He suddenly becomes more excited and starts calling, but only briefly
He settles baxk to rest.


11.23 Grafs leaves.

13.19 Grafs returns singing.
13.21 he starts calling more vigorously.
He stops calling, but he has this anxious attitude..he rests in the nest, occasionally letting out short calls.


14.13 Still waiting...but he is restless. Another stork (hopefully a female) must be nearby.

13.35 Grafs arrives. I think he was perched on a nearby branch- I could hear some noises before his arrival and he came from somewhere near. At his arrival he stands tall with puffed neck feathers. Some kind of defencive behavior?


15.37 He is very alert. Looking to the left and up right, as if there was another stork around.
15.38 Calling
He calms down a little.

16.28 Still in the nest...alone...


16.29 He stands up and starts preening.


16.38 He flies out.
