NURME

birdmap description (2021, 2022)
Adult Black Stork whos territory is situated in west-central Estonia. He used artificial nest, refreshed it in spring, but did not find female to produce brood in 2021. Started autumn migration in 2nd Aug, in 8 Aug reached stopover place in Ukraine. Wintering site in southern Sudan reached by mid October and second half of wintering in Ehtiopian highlands.
In breeding season 2022 n Nurme visited several nests in a fairly large territory. In one of such Nurme was captured by the trail camera together with a ringed female (V702) from Lithuania (ringed in 2020). Autumn migration started at the end of July. Nurme migrated up to the southern part of Belarus together with another monitored black stork from Pärnu County (Timmu). In Africa, the connection with Nurme was lost, as is common there.

Nurme visits the nest of his neighbour, Kergu, every season. The only exception is 2025, when both Nurme and Kergu successfully nested.

Nurme started on 16.03 from Ethiopia. He crossed the Gulf of Suez on 21.03, the Gulf of Iskenderun on 25.03. The Sea of Marmara Nurme crossed on 29.03 via Marmara Islands. To Estonia he arrived on 07.04.

Nurme started on 24.03 (?) from Ethiopia. He crossed the Gulf of Suez on 28.03, the Gulf of Iskenderun on 31.03. The Sea of Marmara Nurme crossed via Bosporus on 04.04. To Estonia he arrived on 15.04 (we see him on the streamed nest of Kergu in Pärnu county first time on 16.04.2023)

Nurme's GPS transmitter "woke up". Transmitter has been silence from Turkey since September 27th last year until today. The transmitter's charge is 75%... and it is currently on the runway at Beirut airport... . Maybe the missing information will come on the way back.

As you know, Nurme’s transmitter has not been working reliably for two seasons. But today, we received great news! A single GPS point arrived via SMS. Nurme has already reached the northern side of the Gulf of Iskenderun in Turkey. It is wonderful to see he is safe and continuing his journey north.
