Post by marika.solo »

IN PREPARATION

Spring Birdmap: data starts from 15 February (autumn birdmap until 14 February). Publication may follow 1–2 weeks later. Storks appear only after reaching GSM coverage during a data session.

Following the spring migration of KERGU - 16CY:
  • Gender: Adult male (hatched 2011)
  • Territory/Nesting 2025: streamed nest in Pärnu County, mate: Kerli
  • We are following Kergu's 4th spring migration with transmitter (tagged on 31.07.2022)

Ringing data:
I have both ornithological and colour ring numbers, but I’ve been asked to handle them with caution, as they can sometimes be misused in false reports.
If you see a stork with a ring in the wild, on a webcam, or in the media, please contact me by Private Message.

KERGU - 16CY

infos by our Madli:
- Kergu himself was ringed as one of three nestlings in 2011 by Raivo Endrekson about 9 km away from the current nest location.
He was caught and fitted with a transmitter in 2022. This was somewhat a special event because no previously ringed adult had been caught yet.
Kergu is a location name - Kergu nature protection area where the stork is from.
Why Nurme and Kergu got transmitters, read here: viewtopic.php?p=8495#p8495 (thx for these info to our Madli)
Kergu Nature Reserve: The area of the nature reserve is 437 ha.The protected area was founded in 2007 to protect valuable habitat types and threatened species in Metsaküla and Sohlu village (both in former Kaisma Parish) and in Viluvere village (Vändra Parish). birdmap info (2022, update: 2023)
A male black stork from the northern part of Pärnumaa. Born in 2011, 10 km from the current nest.
2022 fledged three chicks. The autumn migration starts on August 12. Kergu winters in northwestern Ethiopia.
2023 arrived on April 19, but remained single. The nest life could be observed via a web camera, the observations are on the forum. The autumn migration started on July 28.
