Microclimate & Heat Note: > Even though temperatures in Extremadura reached 33°C today, the nest benefits from a great microclimate. The cliff is oriented so that the nest is in the shade from midday onwards. Additionally, the massive deep water reservoir below and the thermal inertia of the rock wall help cool the air and protect the chicks from extreme heat. Since the quarry water is too deep for storks to stand in, the parents fly to nearby shallow riverbanks (such as the Tajo or Alagón rivers) for quick water runs and foraging.
