I consider the interpretation from the YouTube chat to be an anthropomorphism. Black storks do not count their chicks, and at just one week old, the male has not yet formed a fixed visual routine of the nest's volume.
Instead, it is highly probable that Ogris was reacting directly to the physical state and behavioural cues of the female, Meia. Black storks are extremely sensitive to their partner's body language; he immediately picked up on her tension and stress following the elimination of the chick, which triggered his own anxious behaviour (drooping wings and head shaking).

Severe Storms in Latvia:

Feedings and Nest Care

- 12:06 – Nest change, Meija returned. At first, it looked like she had no food to offer, but at 12:44/45 she eventually regurgitated the frogs she had collected.
- 13:57 – Another feeding consisting of frogs.
- 17:08 –Ogris returned to the nest to relieve Meija. He brought frogs, and all three chicks had a good meal.
(Note on the incident: Viewers noticed that at 17:11, the parent spent a long time stepping on one of the chicks. Andra calmed the chat down, explaining it was just an accident, not intentional, and that all three chicks are fine, eating, and growing).*

Chick Behaviour

Sheltering from the Rain:
The chicks are already quite big and barely fit under the female's wings. One of them kept fidgeting, poking its head out and getting wet. Viewers joked that it looked like a "duckling in the rain".

Evening Comfort:
Around 18:26, all three storklets pooped (PS). According to LizNm, the chicks are dry and the nest is well aerated.

Night-time Antics (after 21:30):
The chicks are poking their heads out from under the female’s tail again (as if looking through a "window"). Viewers joked that they probably need more oxygen or might want another snack at 22:07, noting that "their bottoms are already nice and round".
