Rainy day over there, and Walli pretty much stayed put—spent the whole day in a small pond. Rain’s expected to continue tonight as well.

and photo of the pond / waterhole - it has no inflow or outflow; it's really just a watering hole for cattle, a hole in the ground, overgrown and full of fish

Image

Hi Marika,
Walli is fine — he was dry and looked in good condition! He was big! He was about 70 meters from the little pond, hunting in the meadow. The pond is a watering place for cattle, but surprisingly, there are a lot of fish in it — I saw them — so he has plenty of food! All around are wide pastures and patches of forest, big oaks, and hedgerows, so he has complete peace and quiet!
I think he definitely won't fly away today — he'll rest and feed! The pond is shallow, so he has no problem hunting!
We didn’t stay long so he could have peace, just took a few photos.
He’s beautiful!
It was a wonderful experience to see him. We stayed for about 10 minutes — he was walking in the corner of the meadow and constantly picking at something!
Best regards to you and Urmas,
Pavel

I didn't see any other storks, just one gray heron, right by the watering hole!

It’s a bit away from a small village - just a few houses - but in the direction where Walli is, there are only pastures, large enclosures where cattle graze freely. We had to climb over several electric fences! But there are also quite a few hedgerows, with large oaks and other trees - willows, lindens...
There are overgrown borders in those pastures! And as for the watering hole, I don't think the cows go there much - there were no trampled paths around it! I also saw poops from Walli - white spots by the pond! A very vast and peaceful landscape of pastures, where people don't go much unless they’re specifically going to see the cows. Truly an amazing calm.

- CZ: Studénka - a town (and municipal) in Nový Jičín District in the Moravian-Silesian Region

wiki: Studénka lies in a flat landscape in the Moravian Gate. It is situated on the left bank of the Oder River. Two systems of fishponds are located in the municipal territory. The southeastern part of the territory, which is a strip along the Oder, belongs to the Poodří Protected Landscape Area.

Walli moved to the ponds there.
maps:

The Bažantula Nature Reserve is located near the village of Studénka in the Nový Jičín District and consists of a group of closely connected ponds: Malý Okluk, Velký Okluk, Bažantula, and Kozák (another five ponds in the system are not part of the reserve). The area is managed by the Czech Nature Conservation Agency (AOPK ČR), Administration of the Poodří Protected Landscape Area.
The reason for protection is the near-natural, species-rich pond ecosystem, which includes rare plant communities and a concentrated occurrence and reproduction of specially protected plant and animal species.

- our forum member Pavel Kunetek visited today the area in Studénka, where Walli is moving
- thank you Pavel - ďakujeme :D

- here you are (comments translated)

The ponds belong to the Denas fish farm and are used for commercial fish farming.

So, as you asked about whether there are black storks around the fish ponds – I just called there now, I know the owner of the company very well, as well as the main manager! I just spoke with him, and he said that black storks are often seen there! And that one has been flying around there yesterday and today! Could it be Walli? :D

"Marika, You won’t believe it!! Zoom in on this picture, he should be in the middle! Stork was circling just above us with one buzzard!"

you can see both bird if you are zooming the photo(s)

The Poodří area, Walli should have been moving around this area on 16th September according to the birdmap."
Image

These are the meadows around the Odra River, which are often flooded, and now, after the rain, the water is still there, and they are very waterlogged.

Here is the last location on the birdmap where Walli should be exactly
(I tried to stand exactly where he was, this is the position: https://i.postimg.cc/Hk2SFXNC/Screensho ... 3-Maps.jpg)

The course of the Odra River, a lot of meanders

Image Image

I also crossed to the other side of the Odra River, the landscape is the same on both sides. Here I saw a stork circling.
"He was circling above the bigger tree and getting ready to land. Unfortunately, he spotted me before I spotted him. He started circling again, flew above me, and after a few minutes, he was gone! But it was definitely a young stork. It’s a shame he didn’t land, I could have gotten better photos! But maybe you’ll be able to see it in the ones I sent."

Image Image

This is the place where I took the photos. It’s about 500–700 meters away, but on the other side of the river from where he was last seen according to the birdmap! So he’s probably wandering around the Odra and coming back! There were quite a few herons in those meadows too! I’ll see tomorrow on the birdmap route if he was there! If yes, it would be incredibly lucky to see him twice! I can hardly believe it. https://i.postimg.cc/VvJQk43M/Screensho ... 3-Maps.jpg

and here are the fishponds that are nearby

COMMENT next day: Hi Marika, according to the latest map, it couldn't have been Walli yesterday, he was already in Hungary! In my opinion, he set off on his next journey on Tuesday, but he flew directly over the pond I photographed for you, even directly over the place where I took those photos! There's a weir over the Oder River, if you look closely! Yesterday it was a different cap, also young, which is very good.
