Black stork on the LSE nest in LATVIA - Zemgale
- it is the nest of the LSE (lesser spotted eagle/Clanga pomarina) couple named Anna and Andris (I followed this pair intensively years ago)

info by Dr. Maris Strazds /email (01.04.2025)

1/
Colleagues told / showed me that already. As a fact nothing particular. That’s what migrating birds do. It has been recorded also on Ospreys nest.

2/
Some years ago Estonian 7102 stayed in two Latvian nests for almost two weeks. A few other birds seem to have done so a few days too. May still return, it would be no surprise either. If I understand correctly where that nest is, then there is a stork nest near bye.

Also our Timmu has moved to one LSE nest on a spruce tree and stayed there for 3-4 years. Although this nest remained emty for some time and last year it was re-inhabited by a LSE. Usually these cross usages happen on deserted nests, they do not take it by force.

Thx Madli for the infos, true.

I know it like that too. Black storks sometimes occupy eagle nests and vice versa. Building a new nest from scratch is certainly difficult in the forest.
And the BS also have a spare nest that they occasionally visit.
