11.54 Stork flies away.

12.00 There is still some movement in the nest. At least one chick is still alive in there.
Unfortunately their fate is already sealed and they can not survive very long without the protection from parents. Also the weather is not favourable-windy and cold. Also considering the fact that these chicks have been uncovered and exposed to weather already since 9.43, so by now over 2 hours.

OMG, even more this :(

btw. my answer to Liz:
Thank you Liz. I'm done reading your description of the situation. I don't want to see it. There have been enough sad moments in the years of watching (Gemence and then Jogeva in particular hit me emotionally immensely).

see exact description by Madli in next post

12.29.54 stork jumped in, some nest work and covered the chick
12.31.06 second stork arrived silently to the parent branch

stork on the nest seems to be in defending posture (ruffled feathers - without moving/frozen - stressed)

btw. I will leave soon and will not be back until the evening.

12.29 One stork arrives silently to the side branch. (arrives from left) Stranger?
Soon after arrives (from the right) second stork and aggressively forces the first stork to leave. Parent?
Storks steps to the nest and arranges nest material.

12.30 Parent covers the chicks! I think this is the male.
One stork flies through the camera view.

Female arrives now too.

Parenting instincts are strong and I'm glad that they are trying to save this situation. Really hoping that there is still a chance for the little ones!

if little one is not badly injured there is probably still hope (the nest bowl is enough deep and warm - but who know if these conditions are really good for the so long uncovered chick and all the stress there)

but this strange male (?) is really unsuccessful something for this nest

So maybe one didn't hatch at all or something has already happened to the 5th chick. Today there were 4 left. And there were 2 eliminations. So now there should be 2 chicks in this nest.

-----
is there still the fifth egg?

It is already a miracle that these chicks hatched at all. Remember when there were humans nearby and the eggs were left alone for how long? 4 hours? In such cold weaather they still survived. I really hope that these little chicks fight through this.

Urmas (Raivo as well), Dr. Strazds, prof. Zielinski - they all write, if there are not extreme weather conditions it don't harm the eggs

yes, nature is great! animals survive even in conditions incomprehensible to us (e.g. even after losing a limb, etc.)
