Hello dear friends,

in the south of Germany all white stork chicks are currently dying.
It's cold and it's raining.
A terrible year !!
In the nest where I live near by all 4 hatched young storks died due to hypothermia and pneumonia.
The last around noon today.
It's terrible,

After the adult storks have removed the last dead young this morning, they begin to mate again. But I don't think there will be a 2nd brood. I haven't found any studies in this regard..

I saw second clutch by one white stork pair (Dubné, Czech rep.) and I also read about such situation (if the loss of eggs or baby birds is very early).
next clutch at this time will be already too late and it could be very risky for the storklets .

Pairing this time is most probably about pair strengthening.

unfortunatly not, but what can we do ? Nothing !
It is not only my dear nest, at a lot of nests near and far the youngsters are gone, in the south of Germany

They mated very very often today
Today is the first dry day since 10 days...but next week the rain is expected to continue
It would be much too late for new clutch, the babys would hatch end of June...
