FALa an FILIPEK last news (03.12.2024)

FAla has reached Ethiopia, but since September 29, 2024, there has been no new data from his transmitter. It seems that the bird has hidden itself in a hard-to-reach place.

Unfortunately, there is still no news about FILIPEK. It is possible that GPS interference in the Middle East caused by war operations damaged his transmitter. However, we are still hoping for new data.

FERNANDO last news (July 2024)
- last info about Fernando is from youtube chat on 14.07: "Fernando's transmitter sent the last signal on 22.12.2023 from Ethiopia and it is not known where he is now"
- On 21.07 Lena Zet asked Piotr, if can be assumed that he's not alive and Piotr answered that "there is no reason to think that he's dead or alive. Rather his transmitter stopped working. He could have flown to the area from where there is no signal."

Powrót Fago z Afryki
Fago wyleciała z naszego gniazda online 8.08.2022 o 15:38, zaraz po nakarmieniu przez Florentino. Fago w miarę regularnie nadal uaktualnia swoją pozycję. Natomiast Figo, brat Fago, ostatnią pozycję podał 12.08.2024 z Rumunii i nie wiadomo co się z nim teraz dzieje.
Fago pierwsze lato po powrocie z Afryki (2023) spędziła na Węgrzech (ryc. 1). Drugie lato (2024) również spędziła na Węgrzech, w dolinie Cisy, ale w ramach krótkiej wycieczki na całe 6 dni przyleciała do Polski i doleciała pod Radom.
Wleciała do Polski (ryc. 2) w okolicy Krynicy-Zdroju (31.05.2024), a wyleciała koło Ustrzyk Dolnych (5.06.2024).
W roku 2025 Fago wracając z Afryki (zimowała w Sudanie i Etiopii) 9 kwietnia przeleciała nad granicą rumuńsko-węgierską i na Węgrzech tradycyjnie zatrzymała się w dolinie Cisy. Ostatni sygnał nadała stamtąd 13.04.2025. Najbliższe dni pokażą, czy zatrzyma się na dłużej nad Cisą, czy poleci prosto do Polski – drogę już zna.
Czekamy na nią w kraju.

Fago's return from Africa
Fago flew out of our online nest on 8.08.2022 at 15:38, right after being fed by Florentino. Fago continues to update his position fairly regularly. On the other hand, Figo, Fago's brother, last reported his position on 12.08.2024 from Romania and it is not known what is happening to him now.
Fago spent her first summer after returning from Africa (2023) in Hungary (Fig. 1). She also spent her second summer (2024) in Hungary, in the Tisza Valley, but as part of a short trip for the whole 6 days she flew to Poland and flew near Radom.
She flew into Poland (Fig. 2) near Krynica-Zdrój (31.05.2024), and flew out near Ustrzyki Dolne (5.06.2024).
In 2025, Fago, returning from Africa (wintered in Sudan and Ethiopia), flew over the Romanian-Hungarian border on April 9 and traditionally stopped in Hungary in the Tisza Valley. She sent her last signal from there on April 13, 2025. The coming days will show whether she will stop over the Tisza for longer or fly straight to Poland – she already knows the way.

Fago jest już w Polsce. Fago jednak nie zatrzymała się u nas. Zatrzymała się dopiero za Olsztynem.
Właśnie nie wiadomo, jakie kryterium sobie przyjęła, bo lecąc przez Polskę zatrzymywała się tylko na noc. Zrozumiała jest tylko niechęć do osiedlenia się w pobliżu rodzimego gniazda. U ptaków samice tak mają, to zapobiega kojarzeniu w pokrewieństwie.

Fago is already in Poland. Fago, however, did not stop with us. She only stopped outside Olsztyn.
It is just not clear what criterion she took for herself, as she only stopped for the night when flying across Poland. Only the reluctance to settle near the native nest is understandable. In birds, females have it so, it prevents mating in kinship.

Fago is already in Poland

Two young ones flew out of our nest online from the RDLP forests in Lódz forest district in 2022: Figo and Fago (pic1 - Figo and Fago a few days before flying out of the nest). Figo, brother of Fago, passed his last position on 12.08.2024 from Romania (pic2) and we don't know what's happening to him now. On the other hand, Fago is already in Poland.
23.03.2025 Fago left northern Ethiopia and headed straight north. The flight over the Sahara lasted 6 full days (pic3). In that time she has covered 2050 km. Day over the Sahara she flew approx. 340 km. She flew into Poland on 16.04.2025 flying over the Low Beskids near Barwinka (pic 4). She flew further north. She has flown over the Vistula - Baranów Sandomiersk district. She later flew between Radom and Kielce. These areas were known to her from a short trip to Poland in 2024. However, she didn’t stop there and continued to fly north. She started at the edge of the Bolimowski Forest. She flew over the Vistula again - this time near Wyszogrod.She turned slightly to the east and passed Olsztyn. She stayed longer only at Warmia, between Bishop and Jeziorany (pic 5). She finished her spring trip on April 19. She flew 5,500 km in 28 days.
Fago is now fully sexually matured. She will be looking for a suitable nest, preferably with an unmated male. So far between 19 - 25.04 she has not been able to find anything. Every day he spends the night at different places. We know from our Estonian colleagues that in their country there are many nests occupied only by males. It's 600 km from Poland, for Fago 3 days of slow flight. But Fago doesn't know about that.

Z naszego gniazda online z lasów RDLP w Łodzi w roku 2022 wyleciały dwa młode: Figo i Fago (ryc.1 – Figo i Fago kilkanaście dni przed wylotem z gniazda). Figo, brat Fago, ostatnią pozycję podał 12.08.2024 z Rumunii (ryc. 2) i nie wiadomo co się z nim teraz dzieje. Natomiast Fago jest już w Polsce.
23.03.2025 Fago opuściła północna Etiopię i skierowała się prosto na północ. Przelot nad Saharą trwał 6 pełnych dni (ryc. 3). Pokonała w tym czasie 2050 km. Dziennie nad Saharą przelatywała ok. 340 km. Do Polski wleciała 16.04.2025 przelatując nad Beskidem Niskim w pobliżu Barwinka (ryc. 4). Leciała dalej na północ. Nad Wisłą przeleciała k. Baranowa Sandomierskiego. Później przeleciała między Radomiem a Kielcami. Okolice te znała z krótkiego wypadu do Polski w roku 2024. Jednak nie zatrzymała się tam i leciała dalej na północ. Zahaczyła o skraj Puszczy Bolimowskiej. Ponownie przeleciała nad Wisłą – tym razem w pobliżu Wyszogrodu. Odbiła nieco na wschód i minęła Olsztyn. Zatrzymała się na dłużej dopiero na Warmii, między Biskupcem a Jezioranami (ryc. 5). Wędrówkę wiosenną zakończyła 19 kwietnia. W ciągu 28 dni przeleciała 5500 km.
Fago jest już w pełni dojrzała płciowo. Będzie szukać odpowiedniego gniazda, najlepiej z niesparowanym samcem. Jak na razie w dniach 19 – 25.04 nie udało jej się niczego znaleźć. Codziennie nocuje w różnych miejscach. Od kolegów z Estonii wiemy, że w ich kraju jest wiele gniazd zajętych tylko przez samce. To 600 km od Polski, dla Fago 3 dni niespiesznego lotu. Ale Fago o tym nie wie.
Zobaczymy co zrobi.
