the autumn birdmap starts with data from August 15
The spring/summer migration stops in mid-August and the autumn/winter migration continues from the following day, the 15th = the bird map is set for autumn/winter migration and the new distance measurement starts from 15.08. However, the birdmap is sometimes ready a week or two later.

in this thread we follow ALVAR, adult male (probably) from Pärnu County (we follow his 1st autumn-winter migration with transmitter)

birdmap description:
Black Stork, male, caught and tracked in Pärnumaa county, western Estonia. We are monitoring Alvar as part of the assessment of the impact of the expansion of the Saarde wind farm, and this study has been commissioned by Utilitas AS.
At the time of capture, after observations at feeding site we were convinced that he would not breed this year, or at least he would have no chicks. But it was a mistake, Alvar fed the two chicks in nest until the beginning of September. Therefore, after installing the transmitter, we also fed him additionally in the Soomaa National Park.
Alvar started his autumn migration on September 3, 2024, probably quite soon after the fledge of the chicks.

Soomaa National Park ("land of bogs") - Soomaa has been an Important Bird Area since 1989, a Ramsar site of protected wetlands since 1997, and a Natura 2000 area since 2004.

the story:

... on the same day we visited Timmu's nest, me, Raivo and Urmas visited another black stork nest with 2 chicks in it. They were quite young at that time, so a late brood.
It was a newly built nest that was discovered just recently this year but it has an interesting story. There was a black stork nest that collapsed and fell down 14 years ago. That nest was on the exact same location - the same tree, even the same branch and same spot on the branch. Now, 14 years later a new nest is built there. A coincidence?
After catching Alvar, it became clear that he is the one parent in this nest. So we know that Alvar is raising two chicks this year.
This stork nest was one of those "suicide" nests where it is too dangerous and quite impossible to climb up to inspect the chicks but Urmas took a look with a drone. So they were left unringed.

Alvar has started his migration yesterday (03.09). First flight wasn't very long.
His chicks must have left the nest some time on 1.-2. September, because Alvar stood on the nest for 3-4 hours.
So we can surely tell that Alvar had a successful breeding season and he was a great provider for his family.

Preklad bol zdá sa nepresný. Madli píše, že: Po chytení Alvara sa ukázalo/vyjasnilo, že on je jedným z rodičov v tomto hniezde.
Teda, že bocian, ktorému dali vysielačku, je z opisovaného hniezda. Nie, že je jediný/sám.

Je známe, že samce bocianov čiernych ostávajú takmer vždy až do odletu všetkých mladých z hniezda (a kŕmia ich). Samičky často prestávajú kŕmiť už v dobe ich prvých letov. Vieme (a máme zdokumentované), že niektoré sa podieľajú na kŕmení mláďat až do konca tiež.

The translation was probably inaccurate. Madli writes: "After catching Alvar, it became clear that he is the one parent in this nest."
Thus, the stork that was given the transmitter is from the described nest. Not that he's the only one/alone.

Male black storks are known to almost always stay until all young have left the nest (and feed them). The females often stop feeding by the time of their first flights. We know (and have documented) that some participate in feeding the chicks until the end too.
