the autumn birdmap starts with data from August 15
The spring/summer migration stops in mid-August and the autumn/winter migration continues from the following day, the 15th = the bird map is set for autumn/winter migration and the new distance measurement starts from 15.08. However, the birdmap is sometimes ready a week or two later.

in this thread we follow TRAUMA, adult female from Pärnu County (we follow Trauma's 1st autumn-winter migration with transmitter)

birdmap description:
A Black Stork caught in Pärnumaa County, probably a female bird. Its breeding is unknown because it was caught at the end of the breeding season. She got its name from the fact that during the installation of the transmitter, an old but healing ulcer appeared on the side of the body - probably trauma from some kind of collision.
Black Storks were fed at the fishing site since the beginning of May, but it is not entirely certain whether there was only one specimen or several.
Trauma started its 2024 autumn migration on July 25, but not immediately towards the wintering area, but spent time in Latvia, Belarus and Lithuania. The migration stopover is located in northwestern Turkey on the Ergene River.

Trail camera revealed that one adult unringed stork visited one feeding place. So there was an oportunity to catch this stork.
Unfortunately, on closer inspection, a deep wound was discovered on this bird's left side. Urmas and Raivo could only provide some essential first aid at that time and release the stork. (edit: veterinarian Madis Leivits was consulted)

By measurements, it's possibly a female. And she got an unusual nickname - Trauma ( )
At the moment she doesn't move very far, but stays close to the fish basket. She needs more energy and strength to heal this wound and hopefully start migration.

It has taken 11 days to get back close to the Lithuanian border.
The weather has not been observed in the area.
The longer stop was near the settlement of Skaby, but it doesn't look like a good place to eat there.
I don't know whether the injury is making itself felt and taking longer breaks or the weather is bad.

I hope Trauma has not problem with her injury - finger crossed! We noticed in the past some storks who turned back on their autumn migration enough long distance
