Kergu (adult male, Pärnu County)

Post by marika.solo »

the autumn birdmap starts with data from August 15
The spring/summer migration stops in mid-August and the autumn/winter migration continues from the following day, the 15th = the bird map is set for autumn/winter migration and the new distance measurement starts from 15.08. However, the birdmap is sometimes ready a week or two later.

in this thread we follow adult male named KERGU (hatched 2011) from the streamed nest in the northern part of Pärnu County (we follow Kergu's 3rd autumn-winter migration with trasmitter)

Kergu himself was ringed as a chick in 2011 by Raivo Endrekson about 9 km away from the current nest location. He was caught and fitted with a transmitter in 2022. This was somewhat a special event because no previously ringed adult had been caught yet.
Kergu is a location name - Kergu nature protection area where the stork is from.
Why Nurme and Kergu got transmitters, read here: https://www.ciconianigra.sk/viewtopic.php?p=8495#p8495 (thx for these info to our Madli)
Kergu Nature Reserve: The area of the nature reserve is 437 ha.The protected area was founded in 2007 to protect valuable habitat types and threatened species in Metsaküla and Sohlu village (both in former Kaisma Parish) and in Viluvere village (Vändra Parish). (wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kergu_Nature_Reserve)

KERGU colour ring number 7047 - 14 CY
(CY = calendar year; birds are aged as the number of calendar years they have lived in, with the year they were born in as the 1st calendar year and increasing past every January 1st.)

birdmap description:
A male black stork from the northern part of Pärnumaa. Born in 2011, 10 km from the current nest.
2022 fledged three chicks. The autumn migration starts on August 12. Kergu winters in northwestern Ethiopia.
2023 arrived on April 19, but remained single. The nest life could be observed via a web camera, the observations are on the forum. The autumn migration started on July 28.

NESTING 2024 (https://www.ciconianigra.sk/viewtopic.php?f=116&t=189) : to the end of the season one young female named Kerli visited the nest repeatedly, hopefully they will be a successfully new pair in the next season
- nesting: 2023 (https://www.ciconianigra.sk/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=124): Kergu stayed lonely
- nesting 2022: three well fed chicks fledged (photo in this post https://www.ciconianigra.sk/viewtopic.php?p=8466#p8466)
